Finals thread

Well Sydney is the gay capital of the
world after all.....

Still doesn't disguise the fact that 37,591 more turned up to a Sydney derby AFL final than the only all Sydney NRL final on the same weekend in the city that is supposed to be the home of the NRL.

Penrith vs Dogs may have been a good game to watch but the reality is (this weekend at least)......

AFL - 1
NRL - 0

Ray Warren was right, the crowd today would have filled Penrith Park and it would have looked a whole lot better than a half empty SFS.

Ridiculous decision to not allow home semi's at EVERY ground this weekend, I get it for the games where we might get 45,000, but Panthers deserved to have the game today at Penrith Park.

The main thing that ****s me about this home semi final thing is that it's yet another inconsistency that gives advantage to some clubs over others.
Playing in front of predominantly your own fans on a ground that you know well is supposed to be the reward for higher placed sides.
How is it fair that Melbourne, Qld teams and Canberra get this advantage for the entire final series, where as Sydney based clubs don't? I know the actual advantage it gives is something that can't be measured but it's still a bonus awarded to certain clubs only. Not fair.

Add to this, consistent turn around periods and game scheduling times for some clubs and not others, un equal spending on 3rd party deals etc etc

Is there another professional sport with such inconsistency in providing an even playing field??

So, next weekend we get the Chan 9 dream final, last years GF replay ( just imagine the **** they will go on with pre game , thank the **** I have Foxtel, although they could be getting bad too), and what should be an absolute cracker, Faders v Choccy Soldiers.

I'll need to wait and see if Hodgeson plays for Canberra, if he does they'll probably win, if not Panthers to go one more step.

AND, hope the Donkeys get their butts whooped !!

I heard Hodgeson is no chance. If that's the case Panthers to win.

It was refreshing to see a team that placed attack over defence thrash a team selected on size and brawn. Well done to the 'Riff!
Perhaps it may change the minds of some posters on here that continually argue that big beefy forwards are the secret to success.
Our terrible season was because our backs were slow and had no attacking structure.

Moylan must have had a good second half.

In the first he dropped a bomb and let the next...two bounce. Looked scared.

But everyone is talking him up today, so looks like he got his head together and went on with it. Nicely done.

Happy for penrith to beat the dogs.

Very happy.

edit: I didn't see the second half because the first half ended at midnight and I turned into a pumpkin.

@globaleagle I noticed that too. Moylan had a so-so first half and made a few errors that Penrith were lucky enough to get away with mostly because the Dogs have no attacking game.

Can't fault his second half though.

The Dogs attacking game.....you know its bad when even the Nein commentary team (admittedly it was mostly Johns who for all his faults does know the game inside out) points out that neither half touched the ball in an entire set of 6 and that on the last tackle the halfback is screaming for the ball but the hooker throws it to a front rower who happens to be their captain and has more than enough experience to know that he should not have been near the ball at that point. Personally I can see exactly what those over at The Kennel are crying about.

If it was Api or Parcell who had done that, thrown the ball to say Mr Plod instead of DCE in that situation.....we'd have been going off just as much, though probably not with the same amount of Tourettes.

The 'Riff has so much talent in their grade teams that I'm surprised they are paying big bucks for two props in 2017, Tamou ('Boys) and Brown (Dogs). With the rise of so many of their first grade players - with the resultant salary increase - I'm also sceptical that they are remaining under the cap. In my opinion there must be several up-and-coming 'Riff players looking for a chance to play top grade next season. So I'm hoping our dunderheaded recruitment team is looking to the West to pick up some bargains.

I was worried the Panthers were getting stage fright in the 1st half, and the Dogs were just bashing them. But to give them their credit, they hung on and were only down by 2 at half time.

Then the 2nd half....whoa! Moylan was fantastic (who I rate massively) but Mansour (who I'm a bit ho-hum about) was brilliant. For a winger his passing was sensational. That little interplay with Moylan that led to Wallace's try was great.

The Wallace try was close to the best try of 2016, scintillating!!

They have a lovely mix of older heads ( Merrin / Wallace) and young enthusiasm , with two standout ( Blue's) backs.

And the 18 year old Nathan Cleary, what a revelation!!

They are just great to watch!!

Talk about finding momentum at the right time. The key will be for Wallace to help control the emotions and nerves of his teammates as they come up against in form competition such as the Raiders (especially if Austin and/or Hodgson return).

Yup they are great to watch, it's like watching a team of mates that just get out there and love to play footy together. They have been a breath of fresh air.

I really rate Wallace. He's been close to the best no.9 in the comp this year (and there have been some good ones this year). I love how he didn't sulk when Griffin punted him to hooker, he just rolled his sleeves up and gave it hell. Plus he is tough as nails. Who remembers the origin where he ruptured his testicle?? (I;m in pain just thinking about it). and he played on??
