DCE Offer withdrawn!

I think you're right - out of everything that has happened in the last 12 months, the person I feel for most is Tooves. He's had to try and steer a divided ship and has somehow still maintained a large degree of on field success.

I think it's obvious both he and Kelly haven't got off to the best of starts.

The poor bloke has to front up to a press conference this morning knowing he's going to be grilled on a situation he obviously had no idea about, which made him look like he has no control over what goes on at the club as evident last night.

Toovey knew without a doubt 100%. He is the master at playing a straight bat.

Why does everyone think Toovey is alienated and out of the loop. because the press have reported it as so????.
Toovey is right in the mix, I believe.

Mate I really don't think he did. Watching him last night, he didn't know what to say - he was very much put on the spot and you could tell he was very uncomfortable.

If he did know about it, he deserves an academy award for the way he projected his unawareness.

I agree and what is disappointing is Kelly could have announced this on Monday (when the offer expired) yet he chose 2 release a statement as Toovey is just about 2 appear on TV very ordinary timing.

Surely he knew there was a deadline, but he obviously didn't know Joe Kelly had gone public with an announcement that the offer had been withdrawn. When they told him of the announcement he didn't know what to say because he didn't know what was public information and what was not. He simply kept reverting to the old party line of "we want to keep both of them and we are confident they will both stay". Not much else he could do.

It was very unprofessional on Kelly's part coming out with that announcement while the club's head coach is on tv!! It reflects much more poorly on him than it does on Tooves.

You are all assuming that Kelly made an announcement. How do you know Orr didn't let the media know and they then approached Kelly.

Second time he has done this with Toovey (the burgess signing) looks like they are not on the same page.

Same Page? I would have said not even the same book last night. Tooves got hung out to dry it seemed, looked hugely uncomfortable with answering questions he knew very little about, and had to pull the "both halves will resign, are happy, blah blah blah" party line out..

I watched 360 last night too. He knew about the deadline, perhaps not that kelly had withdrawn. I tend to think Orr let the media know....

I think him looking uncomfortable.was more around him being totally over talking about it.

Again, this is a non-story. Just like Big Willie on Sterlo saying he didnt know about the new ruck rule. Manly playing typical games to not give any information away.

I haven't been at all happy with the way Cherry ( or Manager or both) have handled this but what are you haters going to do if he re-signs after all this??

I'll never have the same respect as I had but he will still be wearing the jersey and as such have my support.

The thing that worries me is that Toovey seemingly had no idea the offer had been pulled last night, surely the head coach would be a huge part of this process?
I agree. I don't know if Geoff knew it was coming but didn't know it was official, or didn't know it was coming at all. It would be a worry if the CEO pulls the contract, knowing that Toovs is going live on TV and doesn't inform him - that would be so unprofessional. I'm hoping Toovey knew it was coming but Manly didn't think it would hit the news until the next day or something. I hope we don't have communication problems between CEO and Coach - if they aren't united, you can't place the same expectations on the players when you aren't doing it yourselves.

We need to just tighten a few things up internally and all get on the same page - which I think we will. We have a history of coming together when it counts, and we need that culture to reign again.

Actually I think he was genuine on that - he didn't know. Toovey knew about the change, but I honestly don't think Mason knew.

Wear the maroon white with pride or not at all 🙂
I don't think they've ever not worn it with pride. I've always been proud of my workplace. Doesn't mean I haven't been prepared to walk when the $$ weren't right. He that is without sin can cast the first stone, or, those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I think the two issues have been greatly mixed up. Look at big willie he's been at a heap of different places and still always worn whatever jersey it was with pride. If anyone has ever held out for more money or considered leaving their job because of pay or conditions it amounts to the same thing its just that theirs is in public.

I'm pretty over it all.

I personally believe what would cause people to lose pride in the jersey is if they read half the **** in here. Those boys have never given me an indication they weren't proud of manly and to confuse that with salary negotiations etc. is short sighted. They certainly haven't done a choc.

The club has to come together now. Too much division for too long. This is the time for decisive leadership. Time to stop the selfishness and support the common cause.

My summation is this (none of it is fact just my gathering of information from all sources, some of them may even be true)
- Orr demanded more money for DCE back 3 years ago. The way it went down left a bad taste with a senior core of players
- when Gift was forced out of the Club it left an even worse taste. Choc, Snake and Foz said I'm outer here, there appears to be no loyalty from the Club.
- DCE is not a naturally gifted player but risen to the level he has by hard work and good support. He is very single minded.
- Foz is one of the strongest players around. Very successful player at the highest international level. Also one of the boys. He is a team player (not saying DCE is not but meaning he is more an important cog).
- DCE is creative and solid. Extremely rare qualities that are nearly impossible to replace.
- On the face of it, if you were going to just keep one it would be DCE but maybe for the whole team "feel" Foz is slightly better option. Who knows, I don't.
- Due to salary cap constraints, to retain both halves it would have reduced future payments to the next up and coming players. The previous unrest was to do with payments to some (one) that then reduced funds available for others.
- it appears Orr has been indirectly blamed for promoting Foz going to Parra in an effort to put pressure on his offer on behalf of DCE. The same goes for the media turning up at Shark Park. The Sharks Board said they did not leak (no reason to). It is pointing to Orr wanting Manly Board to actually see DCE being shopped around.
- If Foz signs with us and later DCE is made a offered lower and leaves he may regret it. ie the whole circus. If he does I hope he comes to be a great player because he deserves it. He is a dedicated football (that few can match) and a fine person.
- If DCE signs else where I would predict he will still give it his all this year. We have not seen anything over the years to suggest otherwise. Remember it is he that goes to training and steps on the paddock and not Orr.

Yep this is a non story Andrew Johns called DCE a once in a generation half back on Triple M this morning and our club has withdrawn his offer (correctly) and this is a non story lol. Just because you don't like the story it doesn't mean it isn't a story.

Foz may be the more popular but DCE is going 2 be a lot harder 2 replace.
