[Resurrected] DCE is the worst halfback in the NRL

Chez second half was great. He looked a different player with Fainu out there. Fainu is a star. He controls that ruck and gives us so much space, we all of a sudden played quick and had space. I think Api could come back on in second half as a lock, a bit like Cam Murray from bunnies.

I think a Api comes on in the second half as Cade Kust. DCE has had under fourteen level service from dummy half for the past three years. Des is on to it. It will be sorted. As evident in Korisau’s non return to the field.

Is it just coincidence that DCE started playing average for Manly when Ballin left???
Nope.

Thing was Ballin gave crisp service but when Foran left DCE was the only play maker. Fainu gives crisp service but also has the nouse to not telegraph where he is sending the ball. API won’t start again this year barring injury. And will rightly be one of if not the best number fourteens in the game. He has so much heart and courage but that needs to be channeled into tightening up the ruck or scooting through a gap when the teams are tired.

UPDATE!

MYTH - 2
DCE - 0

Better 2nd half but meh the guys a myth on top dollar. Stay tuned for next week when the old woman as some of you called him aka blake green schools dce from beginning to end.

When Fainu came on and both his passing and running started to get us on the front foot, Cherry came to life and showed that he's not a myth.

Would Keary have looked as good in the first half if our forwards were the ones who managed to get on top early?

LG was barely sighted tonight other than his bad missed tackle on Tedesco, so once again it was basically all left to DCE. Yes he was very poor in the first half, no denying that, in fact he was shocking. But once we started to get the ball in the second, along with Fainu's better dummy half work, DCE started to come into his own.

We'll be a lot better served when Tom is back in the side and with AFB providing more go-forward.

As I said in the game day thread.....its hard to soar like an eagle when you're playing with turkeys.

Yes we are all waiting for the planets to align so DCE can show us what fantastic skills he has. In the meantime we are 2 and 0 and have been outplayed both weeks quite comprehensively, and he has been poor both weeks. Keary schooled him tonight without Friend and Cronk holding his hand. They had Mitchell at 5/8 who did 3/10 of FA and then Lam (a rookie). But Keary managed to shoulder the burden of chief playmaker without too much trouble.

I'll admit it's impressive when the planets do align and he turns it on, not many better running halves on the back of go forward than DCE. But at the moment we need to work with what we have and he needs to step up and starting owning this team. He's our second most experienced player, only just behind Thommo, and he is now a senior player at the club and the team is built around him, there's no Stewarts, Lyons, etc to help him out. He IS the marquee player, and the Captain. He needs to get some consistency into his game.

Our sweeping plays were easily read and DCE was contained. More ball has to go Elgey. In the 2nd half. Elgey was getting better ball in decent field position and we were putting some pressure on.

LG was the invisible man tonight. The only time he was sighted was when he missed an easy tackle on Tedesco that saw them go 100 metres in a set for a try.

There were plenty of times when DCE made Thurston look like a Muppet. If the forwards don't win the yardage and the ruck, and the hooker gives crap service, the halfback can't do a lot.

Still can’t force drop outs, remember when he used to that so easily?

Got lucky in that last try, but I will take it.

Has so much skill, wish he was more consistent
I think that was when Joey was the halves coach.

DCE first half was shocking poor kick choices and didn’t lokk threatening at all

Second half and he was a different player and the main reason why we actually scored some points ! Why can’t he always play like that for the full 80? Great player when he is switched on but wow there is a big difference between his good and bad games !

It helped that Fainu had come on and was putting us on the front foot with crisp passing and some good runs (he ran over twice as many metres as Api). It also helped that the forwards actually started making ground, again which can be attributed a lot to how Fainu played dummy half. And yes, being honest it also helped that the Chooks went into cruise control. After Cordner's second try to make it 26 blot early in the second half, they clocked off a bit.

Didn't see anyone help him ie dce who was right there..
LG had some good touches in the 2nd but the guy has who to work with? Jorge and parker and joel.. once tommy comes back we can judge him better. As for dce he only started doing well once the rorters had 15 players and keary came off lol.

Is he a myth . yes ..........and no

As a ball playing leader, general, kicker or organiser , he is the imposter of the highest order and indeed a myth.
As a support player, creative , off the cuff , occasionally inspirational and a rugged defender he is a gun.

I have always seen DCE as the classy Ben Barba. Enigmatic, gamebreakers who invariably have glaring defencies in their game, that has been overlooked due to there posession of the all elusive X factor.

Rarely injured we never get to see the ship steered by anyone but, so its hard to know what we lose running with a cust elgy or hodko combo, and after 2 games its a big call for anyone including Des to rock the boat. Cherries reluctance to take the ball to the line is eveident and his ability to get caught with the ball at all the wrong times is approaching legendary status and has a whiff about it.

I was really sceptical of cherrys 2018 especially the last 8 weeks he was woeful. Des was unemployed then and would have had his eyeon Manly and it would not have been missed. I expected a big start from cherry considering and he has delivered about 5 minutes of good in 160 minutes of barry crockers

Cherries role as a distributor to the wide running forwrds where he often turns the ball back one pass from the ruck shows little effort or energy in promotion and rarely helps set up the next play.

Every player has expectations thrust upon them and he is No different . As long as we have cherry we have a balance issue in the halves that has to be solved at a modest income level, but must shoulder a large portion of the load , especially interms of experience. No rookie can fill the void. That or we never spend money on real wingers and have tafuas kids playing wing in a few years

Blake green did it for one year, before someone doubled his wage and made him on field boss man, Win win

But he is loved and that is important too.
