2026 recruitment & retention

Brent Read on Triple M said this morning formal offers have been put to Jake and Tom and are looking to extend in next few weeks. 1 for Jake and 2 for Tom
Oh come on that doesn’t fit the narrative on here , that cannot be true,

1) both are so pissed off with the coach they want out.
2) Tom’s already got a handshake agreement with a club in the UK.
3) they’ve both signed a deal with a book publisher about an expose on the disaster that is the MWSE.

That’s the headlines you should be posting.

PS: the above obviously made up but I’ll only believe it when the club announces the extension as most media stuff is also “ made up “.

Excellent, it is important that these are done before Nov 1st for me.

That allows us to have a clear picture of how much we have to spend on a big fish.

To be honest, whilst it may occasionally happen I dont think the media go around making things up.

I think some may add a bit of mayo or not stringently verify information or may use dubious sources but I dont see them fabricating on mass.

I think the ssue often is fans dont apply salt or rational thinking to some media releases.

Take Tom for example and the whole 'speaking to UK clubs'.

It makes sense his manager reached out, Tom has made it clear he doesnt want to play against Manly so a few calls to acertain his market value in the SL helps you at the negotiation table whilst also giving you a fallback if talks go south with Manly.

Likely true.

Now Manly putting in offers and hoping to sign in the next few weeks. Also logical as Manly will want them signed before No1 to acertain budget for 27 and the boys want to stay.

Again likely true.

Now the above can both be true, and not be conflicting and either or both may not result but it doesnt mean either were made up.

It’s a generalisation to be honest , what I mean by made up is the other stuff

Tommy wants out of the club
Tommy hates the coach
Etc etc

I would think everything they post has a sliver of truth but what creates the most clicks ( you choose )

1) Turbo manager speaks to the ESL to ascertain interest & value.

OR

2) Turbo manager shops him to the ESL due to no interest from MWSE at signing him again , it’s believed that the player is very pissed off with the coach & the ceo after being a loyal player for so many years.

1) is straight truth but 2) is massaged and could very well be true but most likely isn’t and the club of course wouldn’t come out and say that’s bull****.

But I have no doubt what you say probably happened , and we have to acknowledge that.

Listening to Brent Read this morning he said the English clubs made the enquires to Turbo management on his availability etc.

As u say there is a slither of truth (eg Pommy clubs interested) but everything else is spiced up for clickbait. And guess what clickbait (and therefore revenue) works for them

Who's to say Tom asked his manager to check out ESL on his behalf because he just wanted to check out his options. You can still be happy with your current situation and be curious at the same time...people do that every day.

Jake going beyond 2026 is madness, he barely offered anything in '25.
Put him in a blue shirt, run some water, bomb any stragglers, pump up the troops, whatever.

Matt Ballin no longer linked with a return to MWSE.

Titans and Cowboys are however after him.

Not saying this isn’t true but I wouldn’t believe much that comes from Zero Tackle. They are the guys that said we signed the junior Kiwi front rower from Roosters a few months back. A couple weeks later he was announced as a South’s player

No way Tom is moving to the ESL. With a cap of only 2.1m pounds. Tommy would be lucky to get the equivalent of $400k.

Anyone else you'd be a bit worried, but Jake is so all-in on Manly I reckon he'd just retire if it got to the point where he wasn't going to be used in first grade. If he retires then the contract is null.
