DCE 350

Never been one of my favourite players however
There was a time when Manly wouldn’t win a game without him , but now Manly would win a game without him . It will be debatable if he leaves a legacy at this club with what has transpired of late for a one club player of 350 games
There were times of cheering for him for some of the plays he has rescued the games from defeats but unfortunately not of late
He will be looked at as great player , playing in Grand finals ,QLD captain, Australian representative
A lot of the drama he has created himself and that will be what he will be remembered for unfortunate for a player that has achieved a lot in the game

He’s mastered it.

Granted, he won us quite a few games, but from memory, most of those were with field goals. A wins a win, but there were also quite a few games we lost for the lack of a game managing halfback.

Read was correct but he is Seibold's best mate who is running an agenda to protect Seibold. Dig deeper Read pushed for Seibold to get the job and deflects any criticism of him. Sad so many agendas in the media.
Hang on, let me just get this clear… you believe, DCE was not responsible for creating a toxic environment within the club and team by handling it the way he did (regardless of his reasons or motivations)?

I don’t understand what there is to really celebrate. Yep, playing 350 games is huge. Fine. But the way he’s leaving us is the biggest FU to everyone who supported him over the last 15yrs. For him, it’s a business. For us, it’s much more .
If he had half the decency of a Jurbo im sure everyone would feel different

Finally the end to a 15 yr drama

I have a different slightly different view.

DCE vented his frustration with inept coach Seibold to Mestrov. As did the Turbo brothers and " other " senior players last year.

After this player led discussion, Mestrov and Penn gave Seibold a 2 year extension and basically said, fuuck u, we know best.
Why?
How many other clubs were trying to sign Seibold? ZERO.

DCE then asked for a release from his contract as he doesn't want to be coached by Spoonbold as he wants to win a comp.
Release rejected.

No offer at any stage for 2026 until DCE foolishly goes on Channel 9 to announce he is leaving Manly. Mestrov then rings NRL360 with a Clayton's 2 year offer to save face, although they knew DCE would not take it.

Yes, it would have been a lot better to have made the announcement in club colours with Mestrov & Seibold - however the relationship with Mestrov seems to be toxic at best so it may have not been an option - in DCE'S mind at least.

DCE probably naively that telling the world way in advance would allow Manly to get another half - which we have.
However the fallout after that he would have never anticipated.

The rest is history.

Amazingly Mestrov has seemingly gone to ground and missed a lot of valid criticism of his entire management of this sorry mess.

The question to ponder is; Does his years of service to the club offset the damage he has done with the way he has handled his departure? Now there's a conundrum!

Probably a reasonable story in there, though I would personally tweak it to drop some of the subtle (or not so subtle) anti-Seib/anti-Mestrov rhetoric.

Quite possibly, DCE and some other senior players came forward to express their concerns around the coaching. Now let’s say Penn, Seibs (if he was there for that meeting), and any other possible powerbrokers listened to the concerns. Then let’s assume they balanced those concerns against the plan Seibs was bringing to the club and what he is trying to build towards, and decided the best course of action was to continue forward. Reasonable.

Part of the problem may well be how that meeting was handled and communication between both parties, and that part we will never know (barring some book release by one of the inside parties with their own perspective/slant). What we do know is the appalling way DCE went about responding to the decision(s) from that meeting. The rest is just conjecture and projection for us on the outside.

Been thinking about this and I can see DCE to rorters next year then both him and Garrick to the bears in 27 on big money deals. They are good mates and i reckon there'll be some juicy contracts on offer.
You'll find a lot of players from every club will just be going for the 1 year deal with the Bears in mind in 27. Or maybe just a bit further to 28 with PNG, ìf your game enough.

When did DCE request an early release?

When did the club extend Seibold?

That should put paid to your theory.

There is a whole thread on this if you want to read it.

No kidding, so why did you post your theory in this thread?

As we know there’s always two sides of a story , in this situation there’s very possibly,

The Penn’s side
The CEO’s side
The brothers side
The Chasers side

And I guarantee you without the word of a lie that every one of those sides would have a different view.

People twist their version of their side to suit their narratives.

I’m not saying your story @XV-1 is incorrect , I’m just stating, it’s almost impossible to nail down the exact truth unless you were a fly on the wall at said meetings.

It's the ST way. Multiple posts over Multiple threads for no good reason. 😄

And, it was being discussed in this thread as more DCE public stoning.
To be fair he’s copped plenty of stoning now for most of this season , and as I said back then.

“ What a dickhead , why wouldn’t you just shut up ,and say , “ I’ll announce what’s happening for 2026 at the end of this season & not before “.

He’d have his fairytale farewell , Brookie would be packed for his 350th and all the public “ stoning “ would have happened in the off season when we are more interested in cricket & Xmas parties.

The MOST mis-managed departure from a club I can ever remember.

By the way in relation to the said stonings, as much as I think he’s 100% to blame for the situation he’s in , and I can’t wait until we see the end of him, you’d have to be a heartless bastard to enjoy seeing the vision of him obviously distraught and hugging his wife on the sideline after the last game.

I think that alone is a clear indication he knows he’s ****ed it up big time and he’s shattered that the cards have crumbled around him in such an emphatic way.
