Croker - Honest opinions need apply

I said how I saw it . Having high expectations I always expect more .
I am expecting to have a fantastic day lurker , I hope you do to

I love your enthusiasm for Manly mate but I would argue that you had nil expectations when it comes to Croker & Kelly in particular. You should be shouting from the rooftops after their displays yesterday because they MUST have exceeded your expectations by a long, long way!

Not every player can be a superstar because of the salary cap so I am bloody HAPPY to have these players in my team.

I couldn't pick a poor performance anywhere, except opposite us . Brian kelly killed it and Lachie Croker may well be our long term 6.
There's certainly potential there Brad - his kicking game looks good, defense is excellent and with confidence and experience hopefully he'll run the ball a little more and get a bit more assertive out there. Seems like a high quality kid keen to learn who will only improve in the Manly environment!

His confidence will sky rocket after that performance. I thought J Hastings was great off the bench as well.

Lochie's a keeper.

His awareness to pick out AFB, then to follow Jake after passing to him resulted in his own well deserved try

Just on the News saying that he can't describe how good it was to score his first NRL try and in front of his family :inlove:
Imagine how he feels right now. Starting 6, try assist, plus his own try that he setup in the first place, 54-0 massacre all in front of his family in only his 3rd game.

He would be on top of the world and good on him.

I hope he builds on this and adds a kicking game to further take pressure off DCE.

As silly as it was to bag Crocker last week - and I was on the record saying Crocker was decent in Rd 1 so I'm not a knocker....it's almost as bad to get carried away with him this week. This week was no test - forwards dominant and plenty of time to play. Hats off to Crocker but this week was a picnic.

What is obvious though is that he is physically up to first grade - which is always a question mark with young halves. So let's see where he ends up.... it could be good.

What we do know so far is Crocker on peanuts is way better option than poochie Pearce on 800k or Todd Carney.... or Hodkinson probably.

I thought he was a bit soft going off after that headclash. Kelly shook it off and stayed on, that's the sort of commitment I want to see. Frog will learn from that - Kelly has matured enough to understand that we set a high bar here as Silvertails coaching Ironstines and he knows he can't afford to show any weakness. @:p

Yes I noticed how Kelly was hurt in that headclash but still kept driving in the tackle and helped bundle his man over the sideline - some good signs cause his attack has never been the problem.

I don’t think it can be overstated how bad it was for Kelly’s defensive confidence defending next to the 9th immortal last year. Aka the speed bump

Lachie went really well yesterday. Love his running game and how well he defends! Made a few good 1-on-1 tackles and held his own. Had a few nice kicks in play but DCE definitely ran the show. Would love to see him take on a greater role with his kicking game. Baz played the bench really well though. Hastings and Croker play very different games - interesting to see how we go with that game plan against the stronger teams.

Agree. It's Croker's kicking game that I would like to see develop further.. If you consider our stats for metres gained on kicks we are languishing at the very bottom. I know it's only 2 rounds in but that is an area we could improve on and where Croker could prove beneficial.

Good point but we were always in the opposition's 20 so didn't really need a big clearing kick. We're making more metres through our pack than any other team.

I thought Croker had a good game yesterday...he reminds me so much of Foran. He looks a little like Foran physically and plays a similar style. One thing Foran never had was a long kicking game and it appears that Croker doesn't really excel here either. But they take the ball to the line and pass, aren't afraid of copping a hit, aren't afraid of taking the line on and I loved the try he scored off Jake T.

Croker justifying Coach Barret's faith

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles five-eighth Lachlan Croker said the wisdom passed on by former Test five-eighth and now coach Trent Barrett had played a major role in his settling into the No.6 jersey.

Croker and his Sea Eagles teammates responded to a shock opening round loss to the Newcastle Knights with a dominant 54-0 win over Parramatta Eels in 38-degree heat at Lottoland on Sunday.

The combination of Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans and Croker in the halves showed promising signs in the emphatic win.

''I can't speak highly enough of Trent,'' Croker said.

''Trent's been unreal for me. Obviously being a class half himself he's just told me that he's had belief in me and that's improved my belief too.

''Having someone like that back you and especially the team backing me ... I've had guys coming up to me all week saying it's my team and do what I want, so it makes things really easy when you've got 17 players behind you and Baz too.''

Croker's performance earned post-match praise from Barrett, who himself as a player once had to prove his work in the No.6 jersey after breaking into the top grade with the Illawarra Steelers in 1996.

Manly five-eighth Lachlan Croker.
''I was really happy with the way everybody played, in particular our halves,'' Barrett said.

''It was always going to happen, and until we won today and until Crokes [Lachlan Croker] put in a good performance, you [the media] were always going to question him.

''It's his third game and he dominated that game at important moments. If that was someone else he'd be front and back page, but for some reason just because we got beat by golden point in round one under a few circumstances ... I couldn’t understand it.''

From a personal perspective, Croker's day contained both ups and downs.

The joy of the win and having members of his family in attendance was tempered by a second half knock that resulted in him leaving the field for a head injury assessment.

''It was really exciting to have my family there,'' Croker said.

''I know how much it would've meant to them as well so it was really special.

''I can't tell you how hot it was. It was overwhelming actually. I've never played in a game like that and with the head knock I got a 15-minute spell, so I was sort of lucky there.

''It was really physical. They are obviously a big pack so it made it very interesting but we were lucky enough to come out on top.

''The last couple of weeks has been a whirlwind. Obviously it’s good to top it off with a win like that and we're only going to get better.''

Croker, Cherry-Evans and the Sea Eagles will return to action as a part of the double header at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.

You guys need to go easy on Sticky. He's got 17 blokes in a dressing room who are hurting, hurting real bad. They are trying their guts out and Ricky couldn't be prouder of them.

Could play, can't coach.
From today’s media

Canberra coach Ricky Stuart says his players are hurting following another close NRL loss and can see the effort is there despite going down to Newcastle.

The old Stickster has become a parody of himself. How long did Canberra sign him for ?

Croker was much better. His kicking game still leaves a fair bit to be desired, but if the team keeps playing well he will be good enough as is. Just needs to keep the errors down.
