Coronavirus sucks.. but the NRL lives!

Sadly and for whatever reason northern Italy was a hot spot for it many weeks ago so only natural that the effects are going to be proportionally worse there . Is that or has that been officially confirmed that there have been selective treatment of some patients there or just some reported speculation .

Increasing calls including from some doctors to ban large public gatherings including the footy..
2 of us at this stage still planning to get to Brookie on Sunday but an awful lot can happen in 2 days.

I actually work with someone from Milan who’s Dad is a doctor there. That was my source, confirmed by what I’ve read in other places.

Always better to err on the side of caution with a virus like this but finding it really hard to accept the claims of some medical officials who are suggesting that 25 to 50 per cent of the Australian population will contract it . If that did not happen in China where it originated and was initially poorly handled and with 300 to 600 hundred million people certainly not going down with it there , think that it is very unlikely to occur anywhere else in the world community on that scale also .

Main stream media scare campaign.

Probably more of a chance contracting this virus [ serious as it is ] or any other contagious type aliment at one "s local shopping centre then an open air sporting event . Not even the slightest indication of the Cows - Broncos game tonight being subject to crowd restriction , can "t see it also being any different at other N R L games for this week at least .
It might be open air but think about everything that gets touched. Turnstiles, hand rails, seats, money, stray balls from kids. Then you have the close proximity of getting in and out & lining up for food and drinks.
The F1 is probably more open than games within stadiums so I'd say they will shut the doors tonight.

Prioritizing patients with a better or more higher probability of surviving , harsh and even desperate measure but looks like then a calculated policy sadly Still find it hard to accept that the age factor in general was the sole or necessary determinant however .

But there has not been some massive escalation or increase in the reported number of cases today .Just going to come down to individual choice until some more drastic circumstances may or may not occur .

A massive escalation is what we want to avoid. It's not that it is that bad, it's that we don't want it to get that bad.
Part of the problem in Italy was that it spread faster than the health system could handle. So people missed out on treatment and died when they could have been saved.
Yes , people will still get the virus and it may not be that bad for the overwhelming majority. But if everyone gets it at the same time then it will be much, much worse. It's not about stopping it but slowing down the rate that it spreads. Footy games are a luxury and it's easier to shut down events like this rather than something like public transport to slow the spread.

In the end they were clever though and confined people to their homes for a month. That stopped the spread. Rare upside of communism.

What , confinement just in the province it originated in or the whole country ? Couldn :t or didn "t confine the whole China land mass and huge city populations surely .

On that premise , may as well close down all concentrated crowd gatherings such as schools , universities , night clubs , licensed premises and so on . Why just isolate [ pardon the pun ] sporting events . Not panic stations yet , prevention measures sure but again surely not that drastic at this point of time

Damn it....will hate if all sports are closed down - love my sport !!
I will have to get a life and go to the beach , fishing ....if we are allowed onto the beach ??
A week or 2 will be tough, but if they stop a season, would be pretty sad.
All the jokes and stuff on media were funny early, but if it's serious enough to close down major sports activities world wide, maybe more serious than I anticipated....

But like I said, the aim is to not to get to panic stations. We just need to slow it down - so who takes the hit first to do that? Probably those with the highest risk and ones that don't have a huge impact to the economy. Sucks to be a sporting club or a music venue...but it's a luxury and it won't impact everyday life or the majority of other businesses.
I'm also expecting that my kids daycare will either shut down or stop kids from going if they have a runny nose (and they all already have one).
