Coach Seibold thoughts so far.... so good

We'd all love our D to stand up & shoot the lights out, but with an ageing roster it's going to take more work, and possibly extra motivation to achieve satisfaction.

@NREagle
I think thorough video and photo analysis, hard work and some self reflection will help during the off season, until they can get to the real thing next year.

Then the outcome may surprise you.

@Ryan

There must not be many up and comers or not many smart operators....
Ryles to Eels who has been around for many years unable to get a gig before now.
Flanagan to Dragons.
Bennett to Rabbitohs.
Des to Titans.
Madge to Broncos.
Seems like teams can't find these up and comers.
^^^ This

No Siebold critic on here has put forward a viable attainable alternative.

That says a lot to me.
As I said before . All great coaches were once unknown viable alternatives
and the shrewd operators found them
This says a lot about the shrewd operators who have an eye for talent

Ask yourself this

“ has the current coach improved our team & ladder position in each year he’s been a coach “

The answer is soundly YES.

Whilst the ladder position in year 1 didn’t improve from the previous year ( Des) I’m saying look at the years he’s been coach and it’s definitely YES.

So much so that in many eyes at the end of season predictions for the next season suggests we are looking at top 4.

If he gets that , every year he’s done better.

As we aren’t going to attract Craig Bellamy & his system, if we were to boot Seibold who’s the next up superstar coach just waiting for his chance?? And do we regress whilst this future superstar coach learns the trade when it looks like we are at the cusp of more success!!

I believe he’s certainly done enough to warrant an extension , we are building nicely.

Ask yourself this
At the end of each year a coach will either
Under achieve and miss the top 8 with a top 8 roster (Seibold 2023)
Meet expectations and just make the finals with a top 8 roster ( Seibold 2024)
OR...
Exceed Expectations and Overachieve Like All Quality coaches do

Ask your self this
With the top 8 roster that he had at his disposal has Seibold over achieved ?
The answer is definitely NO

2025 is another opportunity for Seibold to try and Over achieve

What does Over achieve mean ?
It means this ...
to do more than is expected or be more successful than others
And this is the prerequisite of winning a comp !

Just for anyone interested in reasons for an opinion, rather than just repeating the opinion, I'll offer this in support of the proposition that Seibold did not inherit a top 8 side

1) he inherited an 11th ranked roster with zero significant off-season recruits added to Des's team that had failed to make the 8 in 2022
2) Manly had failed to play finals in 3 of the previous 5 seasons
3) the clincher - it's 10 years since Manly has made finals in 2 consecutive years!
4) question of semantics maybe, but I'd describe a top 8 roster as a roster that made the 8, or that reasonably would be expected to make the top 8. Not a roster that might or might not get there, and based on past performance, probably won't.

As of this year, Seibs has turned Manly back into a top 8 side. Which will count for nought if we slip back like we have every other time in the last 10 years.

But - if he can get us to 2 finals in a row, then I reckon at last we are really going somewhere. Which of course will be "all credit to the boys", "I'd like to thank God", oh and also the coach will deserve some credit too.

Yeah... that's pretty damning. We have had a squad that looks good on paper but hasn't delivered under 3 coaches, which suggests it might not be as easy to fix as some here seem to think.

As much as I'd like us to be 2025 premiers, reasonably I expect improvement, year-on-year. Top 4 should be the pass mark, but if we finish 5th and make it to week 3 that would be acceptable too.

Seibold would be higher up the ladder if half of his critics got off his back!

Just sayin’
Nothing new here ...
Every coach has critics from passionate club members that desire their club to win a comp
And the best way to respond to them and win them over is by winning premierships

Also we would all make it easier for our selves to climb up the ladder higher if we lost a little weight

I agree feathered friend that we do not want to slip back
We want to soar up to the top like Great Eagles where we belong

Our Legendary clubs Benchmark of Greatness is Winning Premierships
As This is what Made Manly the Best and Greater than the Rest

Middle of the range teams make the top 8
But the Magnificent ones Win Premierships

He had his superstar out literally all year again and his brother eating up our cap, so Seibs is already well behind the eight ball. Did well with Brooks/Talau and is trying to sign several young dummy halves for the future. Big mistake with promising Garrick things and he isn't get much value out of Tolu who is on big coin. How he fits Lehi in will be interesting.

Think that Mestrov has made it fairly clear from a club planning perspective that he sees Lehi part of a future spine [ at full back ] along with Walsh and Large in the halves and goodness knows what emerging 9 either currently in the system or not .
Easier said then done and a few variables to take into account also including the prospect of Turbo maybe switching to a centre role but again can not see it for some time yet .
Lehi has or is definitely capable of producing a solid all round game as a winger into the future and with this scenario , will most likely result in Saab , Garrick and Koula as the other outside backs and Talau more a utility role .
Delicate balancing act . helpful that Lehi is just starting his N R L career , obviously already established to a point but hopefully can be content to stay with Manly on a decent and appropriate contract until 26 and then beyond

3 coaches? Des, I guess Seibold and????

From Danny Weidler’s column in SMH:

Seibold new chapter

It has been a drawn-out process but expect Manly coach Anthony Seibold to finalise a two-year extension with the club in the coming days. Des Hasler’s contract payout has made Manly very cautious about coaching deals.

Hasler and the Sea Eagles settled in early November, avoiding an ugly court battle about the details of his departure from Manly in 2022. The finishing touches are being put on the Seibold deal and the coach is close to signing off on it.

While on the Sea Eagles, congratulations to captain Daly Cherry-Evans, who married long-time partner and the mother of their three children Vessa.

He certainly deserves a lot of credit for where we ended up in 24 particularly with the forwards that he inherited. So all cudos to him. However I do believe he failed on several very specific objectives that were well within his control. One was to reorganise our right side defence and the other one was to come up with a workable game plan to get Tolu out in the open more....rather than using him as a battering ram. Not sure we will finish any higher in 25 given we essentially have the same forwards despite a couple of new additions. Lack of speed and lack mobility I think still a serious issue here. However be interesting to see if he fixes the above two glaring issues.

He deserves another shot. Let’s see if he can fix the right side defence and bring thru a couple of young lions in the pack.

He deserves another shot.
Our Legendary club does not Deserve another Decade of Premiership Winning Drought
We need to Make Manly Great Again
Is Seibold this Great Manly Mover and Motivator ?
One of us will be wrong
Have a Great Manly day feathered friend
