Club News 2024

When I opened the thread I was hoping to see this headline:

‘Jamie Humphreys to backflip on Souths’ offer’.

Do you find it interesting Souths didn't feel the need to advertise signing Humphreys, but we announced the signing Joey Walsh? PR spin mate. We dropped the ball. Like we did with Schuster.

Secondly, why extend all of Croker, GCKT and acquire Simpkin? Isn't that wasted salary cap space? Particularly when you had a player who at LEAST could and should be our 14 in Humphreys. 3rd ball well and truly dropped.

THEN, we let Arthur walk. 4th ball.

You’re preaching to the converted. I like all of the other players you mentioned and we need to retain at least one of them.

However Humphreys looks like he can readily cover both half and dummy half and has been trumpeted for years as a long term replacement for DCE, yet they let him walk.

Someone in our Lack of recruitment and Lack of retention needs to be held accountable for letting him get away. The amount of young talent we have let go over the last few years is nothing short of disgraceful

Hmmm I assume that will put him on a knifes edge regarding loadings?
His next one will be his 3rd offence and some of the penalties get pretty steep even for grade 1.
Charges and Penalties
The previous points system, including carryover points and loadings, has been retired and made simpler with players issued with fines or a suspension.

Every player began Season 2022 with a clean slate with player records reset on a rolling 12-month period since their last offence. Players serving suspensions from last season were required to complete their existing suspensions.

All Grade 1 Offences will carry a fine except for a reckless high tackles, which is effectively treated as starting at an equivalent of a Grade 4, following on from careless high tackles.

The number of offences will be streamlined into 8 categories.

Players who enter an early guilty plea will be eligible to have their suspensions reduced by one week. Additional guidance and video libraries of examples of each category and grading will be made available.

Ryan Matterson in the Market will be an intersesting one.

He has certainly made headlines for himself over the years that seem to always contain a capital 'I'.

But I just can't imagine our club not having a discussion at the very least here either.

Tigers won't go back there. Souths, Raiders, fins perhaps might go there. But not sure he will be fight n teams off either.

He has been poor this season. Not sure if it's because his heart is not in Doesn'tmatta or he is on the slide. He had plenty of talent when he came into the NRL and if he could regain those performances he'd be a worthy partner to Guacca.
I'd imagine we'd be interested in him. Problem will probably be that he'd want a three year contract and it would be a gamble for any club to commit to him for that long on the hope he'd recapture previous form.
