I have zero respect for JWH. In every contact piece, he uses an elbow. And the NRL mainly lets him get away with it.
He's a crafty dirty player, he knew where to position his elbow/forearm. Shame he's leaving the NRL, we would of liked to return the compliment next year.

Just hope that Bully is close to being signed past next season , think that he will be a free agent after Nov the i st if not signed prior
Lack of middle mobility as it is with Jake , Lodge , Brown ,
Alioai and Sipley have got a bit of initial drive but hardly in the better level of forward mobility and endurance .
Not having Bully longer term will just aggravate the present deficiencies in the middle

Had koula been bigger and taller, JWH forearm wouldnt have struck his head. a centre is suppose to go in hard against the opposition. a centre is a very important position, almost like a rook piece in chess. I have always been a fan of big/fast/mobile centres. Suali, manu fits that bill. showing a bit of biff in the opening minute sets the tone for the rest of the game. The roosters did that but we couldnt match it , because we have small players.
I get it. but at the end of the day it's just a narrative (belief). Sure, there are times when it may be beneficial to adopt that approach, but I don't think it is the only, nor always best, approach. I think teams could focus on being calm, centred and in control. IMO, that would make them more effective in their technique, exert far less wasted energy, and allow them to think more clearly. Just hit the guy hard, clean and effectively. Don't get drawn into the chest beating dick measuring contest and feed guys like JWH... just my opinion.

Too humble to accept many thanks...but

Thanks @Jethro for doing these threads all season long.

Pre game, game day, post game threads with all the updates and interviews, what an amazing effort.

We're lucky to have someone doing these for us each week.

Now for a well earned (albeit two weeks early) off season!

Opposition coaches are fully aware of this current Manly side's lack of defensive [ and it is not only mobility but agility ] weakness with good ball movement and effective off loads and the better sides have little trouble exploiting it .
Not losing Koula may have helped a bit and did try and hang in there for extended periods , particularly in the i st half and actually won some good field position briefly but throw in the unforced errors and penalties and would hamstring any side trying to gain some momentum.
Big let down of course but tough to make the finals for a general mid range side based on performance level over a season and at least some consolation to make it to finals week 2 .
Obvious what the defensive deficiencies are but is going to take some serious addressing in the off season and would expect a couple of positional alterations .
Is surprising that with a relatively big pack , the Manly forwards concede so many off loads and can sometimes get outmuscled , especially against the better rated packs .
Definite weakness when Brown and jake are together aiming up against fast moving attack , not sure that Lodge can be as effective against the better forward line ups as well .
Maybe Sipley and Navale to come into the frame , maybe R C G could help matters but probably a bit out of range still Alioai can be good in patches but need another and mainly consistent level from him .
Turbo certainly looked better , at least attacking wise , pretty fair chance that Burbo can go to another level next season on an edge .
Garrick must have had some issues , either injury or concussion wise .
Going to be the same dilemma next season with the outside backs , Koula and Saab musts , Garrick for his goal kicking , Lehi and Talau in at least the game day squads but that would require Croker or Simpkin virtually playing a full game at 9 .
One concern is that apart from Turbo "s issues, pretty much a full strength side available and that does not necessarily occur every season of course and in a quest to make the finals .
But it is what it is and a heap of reassessing with defensive formations and technique and maybe a couple of positional changes going into 25 .
Just as an aside , wonder if Lehi was able to slice through completely in the very early stages , and put Manly well on the front foot , whether that may have changed the course of the game a bit but would have then needed a much better controlled effort and a better run of the green with ref ;s calls to have made that much of a difference

Along with collating all the media news, post game information and the post win team songs, lots of effort to make it a one stop reading window.

News about that Burbo can take an early plea and cop a fine for a dangerous tackle.

Meanwhile Jughead Wanky-Hanky routinely leads with the forearm on seemingly every hit up and nothing happens.

I agree... Should have been put on report. Whether actually illegal or not, I'm not sure, but surely should have been reviewed.
Koula had his head in the wrong position, came in to hot and didn't have time to position himself properly, Jwh had his arms wrapped up around his own chest and ball which is how most players do when ready for a collision , his arm does lift but it is after the contact has been made and Koula was out

Well 2024 season ending could have been worse - look at Swans and the chickens
