Cartwright

The kids 23.

X Lane was being touted as lazy, and apparently showing no effort - turned around into a pretty solid footballer.
X Paseka was touted as slow, and too immobile for first grade - developed into a pretty solid footballer
X Brian Kelly was being criticised on many fronts - developed into a very handy footballer
X Curtis Sironen was a cast-off - at Manly become a very important footballer to our team
X Kelepi Tanginoa was unwanted at Parramatta - has turned into a pretty solid footballer

Our clubs starting to have form with turning the fortune of players around 180 degrees. I could see Bryce being another project we could rectify.

But again, it’s risk v reward all those you mentioned were cheap and to be fair Kelly and Paseka were both NSW 20s Origin players so came straight to us with plenty of wraps, neither had issues around application before coming to us.

Cartwright won’t be cheap, his issues have been shared by two clubs seemingly well placed to get the best out of him. Cartwright is 24 this year, when does he stop being a kid? Cleary ,Turbo and Crichton are all younger playing Origin. Jake is the same age.

If Cartwright is on $800,000 a season rising to $1-m then it makes our deal with Cherry an absolute bargain.
There should be no way the club pays more than $200,000 a season for him, and for one year with an option n the club's favour.
Cartwright and the Tits wouldn't agree to this, of course. So, it looks like the Tits have made another monumental recruitment blunder and will be stuck with him.

Kent's Tele article;

Cartwright is quietly being sold to Manly on the premise of playing under his uncle John, the former Titans coach now assistant to Trent Barrett.

Uncle John can get Bryce going, goes the sell.

But hang on, isn’t that why Cartwright was supposed to succeed under Brennan?

Brennan in February: “If you speak to Gus [Panthers general manager Phil Gould] I think he’ll make comment that I am probably the only coach that’s going to get the best out of Bryce because of our relationship together.”

Barrett is said to be apprehensive about the signing.

If Barrett is the one ulling the strings and apprehensive then that is the end of Cartwright however if others are then this rumour has legs

I can see:

- Him coming and working his way into form
- Becoming a weapon again and playing out his contract with us all while being a model citizen off the field
- Signing with Parra on huge coin and immediately breaking down and rooting everything in western Sydney

Watching Bryce's highlight video, he sure seems creative, and has a handy kicking game. He is a big unit who has the footwork and game perception like a 5/8, could be a handy addition if he's head is right.

Not so much aku from this year but aku from last year could probably make that list as well. Afb would definitely qualify too. Now an international front rower

I just dont think signing cartwright addresses manlys weakness. We need strong leaders, somone to hold cherries hand and some solid wingers. And possibly a prop.

Carwrights fills none of that

My thoughts are maybe barrett is thinking like the failed blues teams. For years the blues were unable to get halves that could get the job done so they pissed about with ball playing backrowers in order to assist the weakness

Im not sure but it has a whiff. In saying that sirros cintract is still unregistered from some reports and he has been linked elsewhere. If sirro is on the move then maybe at a cheap rate

Some of you people need to give yourselves a triple uppercut ....

Barrett has done an excellent job of getting the best out of Lane, Paseka, Sironen, Suli, Tanginoa, Kelly, Uate, et al

Nobody has a 100% track record, but I am more than confident that IF anybody can get Cartwright to stop thinking with his dick ... and just play footy . Baz is the man ...

Agree about leaders .... but I don't think Cartwright will be the only new face next year .....

But baz is an incredibly sexy man and we dont know what rocks cartys world.

A backrow of Sironen, Cartwright & Jake T..............can't wait if true!! Taupau & AFB front row........Bench Paseka, Tanginoa, Thompson & T Wright arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Here in Oz we should have contracts that state if you play like s..t, you don't get sent to Coventry... you get sent to Gladstone.

Don't we have the salary cap issues that will prevent us from keeping all of our quality players ?

Agreed - the Titans would have to have a very lowly opinion of him to be happy paying 80% of his wages for a couple of years. Not that i think we need him but it sounds improbable to me. Enjoy ure tan lines on the GC Bryce.

It's a NO for me. We need to focus on recruiting the following:
A strong and power winger to get our sets off to a good start and is good under the high ball.
A 5/8 to control our game plan and let DCE play whats in front of him. (T. Wright and Hodgo are not the players to fill in that role for me at this stage of their careers)
A experienced front rower to come off the bench to keep the momentum going once Kapow and AFB have a rest.

Hopefully with Lussick, Hastings, Uate, Lane, Green, Brown and Perrett all moving on Manly will have money to spend to fill those positions.

The tits might just choose to tear up his contract and come to an agreed payout where they wear it over a few years of his contract and then manly sign him to a new contract. The new contract value (plus the payout) can often be below the initial contract value. The reason players do that is if you aren't playing games (and games played are any significant portion of your contract. e.g. match payment or clauses related to playing a certain number of games, origin selection etc.) then you won't get paid up to your contract value anyway. Additionally he's still young and if he doesn't play for three years his next contract value is non existent. You essentially take a haircut and back yourself to make it back by resurrecting your career.
