SIGN BARRETT LONG TERM
THERE is a very important meeting at Manly on Monday between coach Trent Barrett and the club’s chairman and owner Scott Penn.
For weeks we have heard rumours of Barrett being offered to the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Gold Coast Titans by his ‘consultant’ Wayne Beavis.
Barrett still has a year to run on his contract but did such an outstanding job with the Sea Eagles this year that Penn would be well advised to lock him up long term. Surely if Anthony Griffin can get a long term deal at Penrith, Barrett is entitled to one at Manly.
As you know I too am no fan of Barrett but for stability this should get done. There is no realistic better option right now with Hasler unlikely and Maguire not what we need. As long as it's no longer than 2 years and there is a sensibly priced out clause to get rid of him if next year turns to poo then get on with it.Has to be one I suppose.
Not sure what weight to give this. Roy Masters today in SMH. The delay Manly are experiencing in trying to secure the signature of coach Trent Barrett would suggest he is either unhappy at Brookvale, or being considered for the Titans' job, or both. Doesn't add anything else. http://www.canberratimes.com.au/rug...ourne-storm-are-premiers-20171006-gyvvv4.html
Or the Reporter went to GI's math class 😛Fox's Nathan Ryan today:
IN WRITING
Manly tabled new two year offer for Trent Barrett.
The coach is off-contract in 2018 with the deal set to keep Barrett on the northern beaches until the end of 2019
Except he is already contracted for 2018 so if this is correct it is an upgraded offer for next year plus one more year.
Well unlike most of you .........I'm willing to get my head out of the Manly sand and see the obvious.
1. Baz is off in 2018
or
2. Baz is not signing an extension now and going to field offers for 2019
I think unless they are willing to pay more $$ than his coaching resume deserves...................he will take his chances and see what the end of 2018 brings. I reckon he is already sufficiently over-rated that he thinks he's going to be in demand ..................and the Dragons job will be up for grabs in 2019.[/QUOTE
There's a little
"Shoosh" blurb in the Telegraph today about "Which NRL coach has secretly met with the Titans even though he's contracted for next year?" Might be a reference to Trent. Then again, it might not.
Just read that also........if true then Penn should pi$$ Barrett off & sign someone that wants to be here! He was given an opportunity to be head coach & if he's not happy then good riddance. If his head has swelled so much that he thinks he's so good & that he'll do better at another club then so be it. Like we don't have enough uncertainty around the club with the salary cap investigation plus plus. What next grrrrr! Just wish we could have an off season without drama & go into a new season with all guns blazing!Barrett's career would die quickly if he goes to the titans graveyard
Then again it is probably just Wayne Beavis trying to up his price to stay at Manly
Trent Barrett’s name has been linked with the Titans this week in a move that will rock his current club, Manly.
Barrett has been in contact with the Titans through a third party in a clear sign that he is no certainty to see out his deal at the Sea Eagles.
It’s all very hush-hush - and certain to be denied - but the mail is spot-on.
Barrett has been an unwilling participant in the civil war within the Manly ranks for the past 12 months and despite steering the club into the finals, is clearly examining his options.
He may yet stay at Brookvale - but his contact with the Titans will cause Manly to think twice before making their next move.
