Obviously still caused major disruption and problems but think Sth East Qld and Nth N S W seriously dogged a bullet if Alfred hit the coastal area anywhere there or just inland as a Cat 2 system .
Cyclones can still develop into close to Cat 5 systems as far south as the Rocky area on past indications ,, so a Cat 2 with Alfred could have been a distinct possibility hitting the coast .
Anyway , not to downplay the serious effects of this event but again , could have been much worse
Cyclones can sure be weird creatures ,
Recall with Cyclone Debbie in 2017 , crossed the coast in the Whitsundays close to a Cat 5 , still a Cat 2 for a while going south down inland Queensland , crossed somewhere north of Brisbane out to sea as a low pressure system apparently , then ended up giving the Nth Island of New Zealand a bit of a hard time .
Another cyclone once went down and up the Qld coast , across the top end , down the W A coast and finished up around Antarctica
