Alfred

I've been keeping an eye on a few webcams (cyclone related ya perverts) and noticed this one on...Tweed Valley way (sth of kingscliff) has had these 3 cars in it overnight.

Again - with all the 2 million warnings not to drive into flood water....here we go! Get a brain 'morans'.

Still no power at Redland Bay, nor phone / internet , luckily I have my Starlink running off my little generator . I put it on an hour in the morning , an hour at night , BUT 2 hours Saturday night to watch the game on my phone.

Heaps of food thrown out, now living out of an esky.

They are saying , maybe Friday night , most likely Sunday night for us , if it’s Sunday that’s 10 days without power.

No , it’s NOT, fun
That's really tough Mark, we got our power back on after 15hrs. Could be, because we are close to two major Hospitals I suspect.

Obviously still caused major disruption and problems but think Sth East Qld and Nth N S W seriously dogged a bullet if Alfred hit the coastal area anywhere there or just inland as a Cat 2 system .
Cyclones can still develop into close to Cat 5 systems as far south as the Rocky area on past indications ,, so a Cat 2 with Alfred could have been a distinct possibility hitting the coast .
Anyway , not to downplay the serious effects of this event but again , could have been much worse
Cyclones can sure be weird creatures ,
Recall with Cyclone Debbie in 2017 , crossed the coast in the Whitsundays close to a Cat 5 , still a Cat 2 for a while going south down inland Queensland , crossed somewhere north of Brisbane out to sea as a low pressure system apparently , then ended up giving the Nth Island of New Zealand a bit of a hard time .
Another cyclone once went down and up the Qld coast , across the top end , down the W A coast and finished up around Antarctica

The cyclone crossed straight over us , it hit Straddie , and the eye came right over us ( in the midst of the wind it went completely silent , for 20 minutes ( it was weird ).

Then it immediately turned north.

Was tracking as a 2 until it hit Straddie , then went back to a 1.

We lost power just as I was watching on Windy.com.

Stradbroke is probably 8kms as the crow flies from us.

I cannot imagine what a Cat 4 or 5 must be like

I can't tell you through experience what a category 4 or 5 is like, however, one of my closest friends lived in Darwin when Tracy hit in 1974 and explained it as being absolutely terrifying and an experience he hopes he never has to live through again. They all sheltered in a bathroom on the bottom floor of their home and after Tracy had passed, they exited their home to see all the houses on the other side of the street 'gone', completely demolished, and yet their side of the street was relatively unscathed. Crazy!

We were at boarding school together and he asked me if I was interested in going to Darwin with him over the Easter Holidays in 1975 to help with some maintenance in Darwin, building Creche's for the children and just general repair stuff. Being a country boy (farm), I was pretty handy with a welder and building fences and that sort of crap, so I agreed. What I saw when I arrived absolutely horrified me, it was like you would imagine Hiroshima to be like after the atomic bomb. Absolutely devastating.

Did the mermaid get a hole in one?

Dunno.

[Insert golf pun here]

Ummmm...
Pre coffee so....

- Nah, she was asked to play through
- She couldn't, there was too much sand in her bunker
- Nah it got lost in the 'long grass'

I'm being told to stop typing.
