TWELVE months ago, Akuila Uate was stuck in reserve grade not knowing if he’d ever get a shot at NRL again.

He was unwanted by Newcastle, who had signed him on big coin, so they ended up offloading him to Manly in a player swap with backrower Jamie Buhrer.

It’s that lifeline that’s reinvigorated Uate’s career and given him the confidence to prove the doubters wrong.

Great story and the change of scenery has done wonders for him as many of us hoped. I wish he had a centre who gave him more opportunities though. He's such a wasted resource next to Dylan. Poor bastard nearly caught a cold last week waiting forlornly on the sidelines as old mate tucked it under his arm with eternal blinkers on....GIVE AKUILA THE BALL FFS!!!!!!

I was a big doubter. The only thing I can put it down to is his attitude which than became confidence. I suppose when you are at the peak and then slide you take a good look at yourself I say surely I'm better than this? I'm glad I was wrong.
