Hasler isn't letting in the tries just for clarification. The players are letting in the tries....
Also this may help your hearty stew to taste better.

We are 9th. We are -36. The dogs you speak about are -125 and the amazing tigers are -82. The dogs are in last position and the Tigers are in 3rd last. We have won 2 x the amount of games and have a much better roster. We will play finals. The dogs and tigers won't.

Hope that helps? Have a great day.
Nice post. It kind of comes down to perspective. I mean whether the cup is half empty or half full. I am with you there. We are far from being basket cases atm. We certainly have lot of improving to do but we are certainly not at TBaz exit the building level. 😂

Mate if you read my words, I'm not talking about for and against . I'm talking about defence. As it's always been, and always will be, the buck stops with the coach. Hope that helps, have a great day 👍

Was just about to write that. You're talking about defensive deficiencies vs. the opposition (very valid) , and to counter that the fact other teams haven't scores tries / points is raised. I don't see the relevance?

Your point is valid mate. Almost every game, Cronk, Ennis, Roach, Anasta, Warren, Voss have all claimed our defensive line is way too placid, slow and reactionary. We just stand and compress , then don't put pressure on their kickers.

Allows the opposition momentum, time and position, leading to us being penned into our own zone and having to come out from our own try line where the opposition muscle up in defense and we make no metres, and our halves look like they have no time..

Statistically we also have the slowest play-the-ball speed in the league. That shouldn't be on. That's effort, not ability or skill. We are constantly getting turned on our backs.

People shouldn't be hard on our backs and halves here, they are busting their balls in my eyes. This is hooker and forwards thing. This is their issue. We also shouldn't stand so flat in attack. Last season, we stood deeper, and guys like Olakau'atu ministered the opposition.

Anyways good point mate. And 100% spot on. We need to be MUCH more aggressive in defense and actually put the opposition under pressure with it like the Panthers do.

My question is do we have the fitness for that , being a big immobile lumbering team?

But again you can take any point or points in isolation in an attempt to make YOUR point.
Yes D is an issue. Yes we need to tighten up a lot. Yes its an issue.
But in the bigger picture comparing us to the tigers and dogs by picking out one stat where we are deficient is disingenuous.

Let's look at facts.

PENRITH - We played the Penrith side that smashed the storm yesterday. As good as they are they have only really turned it on 3 or 4 times this year. We were hammered.

SHARKS - terrible first half which added to out tries against. We only lost by 12 after sprited second half.

SOUTHS - 12 me for 70 min pretty well explains that

BRONCOS - no excuses. Bad bad bad.

So take this 4 games and you can see where a lot of those tries have been scored.

Facts are we are not in a great head position right now. I can only hope the people in charge can turn it around sooner rather than later. But the Sky isn't falling in just yet.

Perhaps in 2 weeks time I may have a different opinion but I hope not.

We play Parra / Storm (away next two weeks) so you might want to rethink the timing on that haha.

All of this can be fixed (in my opinion) with looking at say Melbourne / Penrith (and tbh The Cowboys are doing it now) in a spread, moving, aggressive defense that pushes up with energy. Put their halves under pressure when they are kicking.

Why haven't we changed our defensive structures?

My opinion today, is that in 2022, you have a specialist hooker that distributes the ball really, really quickly. Teams have the ability to spread the ball FAST (well, the good ones) today. That means the hold, compress and spread defense can certainly be found out, particularly against the good teams (I hope all this is making sense - I'm typing rather fast).

BUT, those defensive structures work particularly when you have field position (i.e. not constant tryline defense). Why aren't we getting sound field position this season? Yes, everyone is looking towards the forwards (in my view partially fair, partially harsh). But imo, a lot comes down to faster play-the-balls. We statistically have the slowest play-the-ball in the NRL. That, and being flipped on our back in every tackle. Then that's on top of a flatter attack base.

Good teams play deep. They play-the-ball at speed. They hit the ball at pace. This is how you get momentum and a roll on (and it all starts from smart ball distribution at 9), and you GET field position. You can then dominate in defense as they attempt to come off THEIR tryline.

Anyways, that's my thoughts - and I also think it's something we can fix man. Our forwards have dominated GOOD teams. So the talent is there. The application and coaching system though is what I question.

Yeah tbh, what i seen on Friday was simply a side that's will never be compared to teams of 07-14, 94-98.
They have no ticker and are severely overated, in last 4 years in golden point win in 19 v storm I felt we where building.
We simply making up numbers I'm button of 8 or missing. None of current players in pack go near gifty, choc or brent kite nor kosef, Carroll.
The issues at 9 have to come to ahead end of July and its no coincident when we had fainu in 19 we had that look.

07-14 and the 90s teams. What amazing eras for this great club. As I get older I’m starting to really appreciate those golden eras!

Yeah agree that 07-14 era was special the stuff to keep them together you don't see now. I don't believe I see a centre pairing to pass Jamie Lyon and Steve Matai but Snake was amazing talent.
Nik Kosef was a special talent and potential wise could of been talked of like cylde. Beaver speaks for himself and toovey what a warrior.
Current team just don't feel it even when we have contendered, hindsight we'll say we should of dug our heels in with Afb release request it's so hard to find blue chip forwards.

I've been watching with sadness some of the stories and comments from people involved with Andrew Symonds tonight. Real perspective stuff. Such a shame !

Then there was this fella talking about how hard life was for him, and he was ending things tonight (thankfully everyone got the cops to rush around to his place and he's alive and well).

But I'm a bit shook.

On that basis, and in hindsight, I want to offer @Red Pill first of all, but also @47MVEagle , @Eagle of London & @Sheikheagle my heartfelt apologies for my petulant behaviour and interactions over the weekend.

I do see where you're coming from. Possibly a break from the PC during and immediately after games might help me, because I can see how it would come off very repetitive, annoying and frustrating.

So hand up boys. I'm not after sympathy or anything, or to play a victim. If I didn't make the original comments, you wouldn't have felt the need to vent your frustrations, so I get it.

Life's too short and difficult as it is, for me to be a wanker on a footy forum. Hope you can accept that as authentic.

And go Manly. You're all good fellas. Supporting the greatest team on the planet !

@Ryan Wow mate you certainly wear your heart ❤️ on your sleeve. I agree with your sentiments in regards to Roy I remember him talking about Warnie after his death and how he Warnie helped him through some hard times and for it all to end like this is truly very sad. Life is indeed short. You don’t need to apologise to me ( I am only speaking for myself here) we both gave as good as we got! ( PM issue was harsh though 🥲. Some may disagree but I suspect we provided a form of entertainment to others over the weekend when footy wise there was not much to be happy about. Some used it as an opportunity to look down at it and probably felt better about themselves as a result. Good for them. We were certainly over the top. The forum to a degree should be a place where one can let their hair down and indulge (within limits, I suspect we pushed some of them ) be a big kid again….anyway be who you are mate. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing with someone. I personally don’t care if you have a crack at me for things I say but know you will get it back! 😉. Not everyone is the same in this regard though as I suspect you already know. Don’t be so hard on yourself and maybe not so hard on the team!!! sometimes 😜. I appreciate your post and if I have done anything that truly got under your skin i too apologise. Take it easy. Let’s hope the team steps up. Cheers.

I can only come to 1 of 3 conclusions.

1. You two are married. The anger displayed followed by the calm down followed by the mutual respect is that of a devoted married couple. Well it resembles arguements with my wife anyway.

2.you are indeed the same person posting under 2 accounts in a serious bipolar moment.

Or

3. Mortal combatants just lulling your opposite into a moment of reflection from where one of you ginga ninjas will leap from the shadow decapitating the other in an ultimate victory for the ages. If it is this please be sure to record the final moments for history.

We have plenty to work on and need to improve if we are to make a fist of this season.

We seem fairly predictable in attack and seems our mental strength is lacking so we crumble hard when things go against us.

The good news is we are playing poorly and are 5 from 5 and 2 points off the top 4 so we are still in the mix.

Time for Dessie and the team to lift and hopefully it starts with Parra!!!

Hmmm I sense some jealousy mate. Not getting enough TLC over there in the old dart? All jokes aside if someone reaches out you reciprocate in kind. At the end of the day we are only dibbling on about footy, well at least most of time. There is a serious world out there.

Yep. Just jealous of all the love flying about. Good to see ALL our levels of manic subsided after 48 hours.
I must try harder to read and move on in instances such as this.

All good. As far as psychological observation goes I sense a subtle hint of
Schadenfreude 😂

Suck it up sooks. As I said in another post we could name future cyclones after some you flippant panic merchants.
Far out I would hate to be in some kind of life threatening crisis situation with some of you crybabies. You remind me of this character

Gees did you watch the game? There was more action emotion and vigour displayed by some of the spectators in the stand than the manly players on the pitch.

Just sayin’

Ahhh we don't have that ability to move up aggressively because have a look at the shape of most of our forwards. Too slow, too unfit.

It’s pleasing to read the comments on here this morning , we ALL get very heated during and immediately after a bad game.

When that game is an absolute shellacking it often loses all control.

Well done fellas!!

This , by far , is our biggest issue.

Not just Saabie, not just Cherry , not old Foran , not busted up Tom.

It all starts with our custard slice forward pack.

Marty , hot and cold and past it.
Keppie, yeah think he’s a liability now
Josh A, can be good , can be lazy
Paseka , big , strong , acts like Jane not Tarzan.
Davey , add to the “ Tisschu” or Tommy Tissue” brigade.
Sipley , goes ok , but only ok
Bullemor , work in progress
Boyle, who ???

Have I missed anyone??

Honestly our forward pack is BOG AVERAGE.

And therin lies the problem.
