Roache on Train and Replacement contract brings squad number down to 30

Funny. I thought I read that our new coach had Schuster as a 5/8. Must have deluded myself.

Not sure if Latu can be in our top 30 squad until he turns 18 at the end of May. Although the NRL allowed Suali in early but then he does play for the Roosters, so different rules.

Possibly .. probably .. but it could be a case of simply holding the spot vacant and registering his contract in may .. ?

Some trivia: I just looked at all the top 30 squads & noticed that Manly has connections by way of ex-players & juniors with all but four three clubs - Broncos, Dolphins, Roosters & Storm

Raiders - A. Hopoate
Dogs - Davey, Waddell
Sharks - Ramien, Hines
Titans - Foran, Kelly, Verills
Knights - Mapapalangi
Warriors - AFB, Walker, F. Lussick, Metcalf
Cowboys - Elliot, Hiku
Eels - Gutherson, Lane
Panthers - Garner
Dragons - Suli
Rabbitohs - Knight
Roosters - JWH, Keary
Tigers - Koroisau, Sione Fainu

Three of these are hookers - Api, Verrills & Lussick

(very tenuous connection with Storm - Tyran Wishart is the brother of Garrick's girlfriend)

Now that cap is sorted. Transfer market is heating up. Well finally being announced anyway. Is there one more for us yet is the question?

Reading that Saab out til possible May. Who will play on flank opposite Tuipolotu if Tom is fit could Weekes slot there as Garrick promised centre with koula ?

Think the prospects of Weekes being on the wing , pretty remote, could maybe adapt to a centre role if it comes down to having the best 13 in the starting side and his ability and form does warrant it . Haven 't noticed any recent references for Garrick to the centres , still not too sure what the go there was with Mestrov suggesting it may be on the cards , Club has certainly put some faith in him long term but wing or full back unless he can somehow show a complete change in playing style to make a go of it as a centre . Vaega could come into contention with Saab out for a while yet , 2 trials this season so should be some reasonable opportunity for the younger contenders to show they can match it consistently at a higher level

If Manly don't win the Grand Final this year, it will be 12 seasons in a row without a GF win. A new record for Manly's longest ever period since Manly's last GF win.
11 seasons 1997 to 2007
11 seasons 2012 to 2022

If Manly don't get to the Grand Final this year, it will be 10 seasons in a row without being in a GF. A new record for Manly's longest ever period without a GF place.
9 seasons 2014 to 2022
9 seasons 1998 to 2006
8 seasons 1960 to 1967

In the club's entire history, no generation of Manly fans has ever gone through 10 seasons of not seeing Manly in a GF.

Good research and info , certainly had a good formula to get that successful run from 2007 to 2013 or so for instance . From late 60 " s to late 90 's , Manly was in a position to be one of the biggest spenders in the comp and results showed . Salary cap era , a challenge for any side to stay on top [ with a couple of exceptions and their advantages ] . Probably [ or certainly ] does not help Manly having 3 players taking up nearly one third of the cap , really good if they could all play the majority of games and regularly play to their cap related status but just has not happened to date .

If Des was still coach, this is possibly the team he'd select for Rd One. It could be used as a base when trying to predict Anthony & Shane's selections.

1. Turbo
2. Tuipulotu
3. Parker
4. Koula
5. Garrick
6. Schuster
7. DCE
8. Aloiai
9. Croker
10. Paseka
11. Olakau'atu
12. Tuilagi
13. Jake
14. Weekes
15. Condon
16. Keppie

Logic says

The base used for selecting team for round one should be based on trial Form

Form players fire up the team

Ah you young pups. Though Manly played five grand finals between their first season and first grand final win (1951, 1957, !959, 1968 and 1970) and were called the bridesmaid team back then, they didn't win their first premiership for 25 years since their first appearance (26 years if you include the year they first won in'72), though I do note your caveat 'since Manly's last GF win'.. We old farts wondered back then if they ever would win a GF. You young bucks and fillies have had a glut of wins, thanks mainly to the Arthurson -Futon governorship.
