2018 Rd 5 - Manly v Titans: - Pre-Game Discussion.

Not sure that we are getting so desperate or thin just yet,but obviously not an ideal position to be in at round 5.
Team that I think will be selected and not the team that I would necessarily like to see...
1. M.Wright
2. J.Wright(T.Wright)
3. B.Parker(T.Funa)
4. B.Kelly
5. A.Uate
6. L.Croker
7. DC.Evans
8. AF.Blake(T.Paseka)
9. A.Koroisau
10.M.Taupau(T.Sipley)
11.J.Thompson(L.Brown)
12.F.Winterstein
13.J.Trbojevic
14.J.Hastings
15.S.Lane
16.L.Perrett
17.J.Gosiewski

Players in brackets are guys left in 30 man squad,Lussick probably gone so we can promote someone out of Fainu/Amone/J.Lussick/J.Anderson/P.Schuster/H.Tuha/J.Folau/J.Loko/M.Suli and eventually when things are sorted will probably promote another 2 out of the above mentioned. Not great but not time to slit wrists yet....Also when Darcy goes it might allow us to pick up a depth guy not getting a run at another club like Sue/Felise from Tigpies....and have them pick up some of the tab.

Maybe if Tom Wright was selected or seriously considered as a winger and Matt as the chosen full back , they could interchange regularly with Tom being used from full back in an attacking role and Matt more so in defence . Even though Tom apparently had an ordinary game on the weekend , he was in the extended i st grade squad the previous week so should not be too far from i st grade promotion .

Frankie did was great things last season mixed with some utter rubbish in defence.
He can bust the line but it’s his work rate and there lack of most of us had issues with. jack gosiewski Had a lot of fanfare so I imagine he get his spot on bench.
Matt wright fullback don’t know past that Jono Wright got that nrl experience so he may get nod on the flank.

Agree not time to stress just yet, should have walker and turbo back for the tigers game.

I like Tom and think he has a chance in NRL at centre.I am not convinced he is 5/8,he could fill in on the wing but has not had any experience there and has not proven himself at all at fullback,he played 2 games there in U20's last year,2 at centre and rest of year at 5/8.He did play a bit at fullback in his rookie season in 2016,but he has only played at 5/8 this year in ISP.People want to promote him now and I understand the reason, but I am not sure that now is when Barrett will do it.I would not have a problem if he was selected as Barrett obviously saw enough in him to put him in our top 28....I just think that Barrett might go with experience in the backs at the moment and rely on the forwards to dominate the opposition pack and play off that, but I get the attacking options T.Wright would offer.

Sea Eagles mail: Dylan Walker just needs a clearance from the medical team to return. His comeback would allow Brad Parker to push to the wing and Matt Wright to shift to fullback. Taniela Paseka is in line to replace Kelepi Tanginoa (ACL) on the bench and Curtis Sironen (ACL) is likely to be replaced by Jack Gosiewski or Frank Winterstein.

Obviously Frank would be in line given he played every game in 2017, however I think Jack is more of a ‘like for like’ replacement with his line running etc.

Interesting to see if Walks does come back this week. I know Barrett said he’d be likely back in the team for Rd 6 against the Tigers.

Was hoping to see Tom up here in Gladstone as the kids were looking forward to seeing him play up here also. I hope walker comes back for the game as that will give us a fresh face in the side and hopefully give us more spark for a longer period than 15min.2 wins on the trot will be a blessing considering the crap that has gone down of late. Looking forward to this game.

That"s a pretty fair assessment regarding Tom Wright"s suitability for a few back line positions . No doubt being groomed as a centre by the Manly coaching staff in the off season so with his obvious lack of wing experience may not be given this position in i st grade in the short term . [ unless Parker is considered as a winger and with Tom as a centre now but would seem very unlikely ] Also as Don and the other guy [ winger ] who debuted for the Titans yesterday are very capable players . The guy still has a special talent and football ability and with his utility value should still get some i st grade opportunities as this season progresses .

I'm not so much panic stations about the team just yet. Hardly ideal I know, but guys (a few we've been keen to see, and a couple probably playing for their next contracts elsewhere) will be given opportunities and hopefully step up. Some real opportunities there to be taken. It's still early in the season, legs not quite jelly. The true depth test will be in 4-5 weeks when these guys getting an opportunity have had their runs and we'll see their consistency levels. On their day many of the names thrown about can get the job done, but aren't proven week in week out type players. So that's what I'd be looking for most, and will be happy if they can produce consistency, doubtful anyone coming in will be game breakers, so pressure shouldn't be too hard on them. If they can settle and hold their own, do their job, then great. Big job for those already settled in to really help bring these replacements along, a few will need to really step up. Hopefully that is it for injuries now.

Hey that's a cool nick name for Tom.
Tom "Twilight" Wright......I like it

I like the recent addition of 'Siri' for Siro.. I suspect it came about because before getting injured, 'Siri' provided all the answers for our left edge ?

Also for Kelepi I've seen Kale, Kelps and Tang/Tangi.. Kelps being my favourite..

Back to next weeks line up, I really wish Jade Anderson was in our top 30 squad. Since it sounds like he's not an option for us yet, I would like to see;
1. Hastings
2. M.Wright/Parker
3. Walker
4. Kelly
5. Uate
6. Crokes
7. DCE
8. AFB
9. API
10. Kapow
11. Jetski
12. Thompson
13. Jurbo

14. T.Wright
15. Express Lane
16. Pez
17. Paseka

I'm sure Frank will get a spot on the Bench but I'm pretending T-Baz asked me who I would nominate for some experience and game time until Turbo returns..

I totally forgot about Parker though.. I'd be happy for him to get M.Wright's wing spot..

Absolutely no need To panic - our second rowers are basically there just to run line lines and defend hence they run bugger all metres - Matt Wrights no MOM performer but he'll fill in solidly and we throw in a winger. We'll miss Turbo but we should be grateful it sounds a minor injury. If we're committed enough and good enough we'll get through. Go Manly

For Silvertails sake, I hope Tom Wright gets a run.

We need a new whipping boy now that Brown is not in 1sts and Kelly is playing well.
Parker And M. Wright are trying, but just not stuffing up enough to fulfill our needs at the moment.
