Classic example, the 2015 GF. Brisbane led by only 2 points at half time (14-12) and instead of trying to increase it to make sure they won, they virtually shut up shop and tried to defend it.

Think about that. They tried to defend a 2 point lead for 40 minutes.....in a Grand Final.

It didn't work.

The teams at the top of the table are also the teams with the most offloads. With all the penalties so far , second phase play is destorying defences. We lose some of that with Siro out but still have Jake and Tapau

Little bit of rain up here at the venue but nothing major so far. So far the little rain we have had is serving a good purpose for the players by keeping it soft to play on. Depending on what this cyclone is doing it looks good so far.

The modern game sounds to be resembling gridiron. Players who specialise on the right/left side of the field, or stay in the middle. Others are ball runners; hole runners, blockers....
What happens if a right side player scores a try on the left side? Is he dropped the next week for not following the much touted 'game plan'?
How many of our players are instructed to "Play what's in front of you"?
No wonder the Walker Brothers had so much success coaching, throwing out structure and instructing players: "Just score more points than your opponents".

I hear ya. Long for the days of inside/outside centres and backlines spread across a field. I can understand left / right combos for a defensive structure, that makes sense. But attack??? unfortunately RL these days is a structured game, as you say, much like gridiron. I think it was one of the Johns brothers that were saying that young halves these days from a very early age are just drilled on set plays and structured sets of six...there's no ad lib, no genuine footy skills encouraged. One of the things I hate about modern footy is the waves of decoy runners we now have, I swear there are more players in front of the ball then behind it these days. They've made a rod for their own back by allowing it to fester where we are now confronted by an ambiguous obstruction rule that causes controversy every season.

Would love to see Tapau hold on to the ball a little better than he has though. He can offload a ball but not always at the right time which forces a lot of errors from what I have seen this year. He has the potential to offload but he is someone I will be watching this week. When he is good he is great. He does make some simple mistakes though. If we back up like we did last week we should win this game easily.

I finally watched an intro to a footy game from fox, and they ran through the team as:

Left side: (wing ctr 2nd row)
right side: (wing ctr 2nd row)
Forwards: (2 x props, lock)
spine: 1, 6,7,9

so times... they are a'changin'

Best available. The last thing we want to be doing is bringing in a rookie in Dylan’s first game back. Wright is no game breaker, but he is very reliable, and very experienced. Truth is, we should decimate the Tits in the forwards, and if it’s wet, hopefully we learnt something from the Bunnies game.

Maybe I'm missing something, but their forwards look pretty strong to me. They did a job on the Donkeys last weekend and if the players go in thinking what you are then we will get yet another "surprise" loss on the cards.

Yep i agree, can’t pick which Manly team will show up from week to week.

There are literally no easy games anymore and this game could go either way.

GC won against the Broncos comfortably at Suncorp and watching the game it wasn’t luck but determination that got them that win.

We could play Lane on RHS - he has spent time there before. But that would leave us skinny for middle forwards.

If Frankenstein does get the gig it'll be interesting to see if Chez actually uses him as a hole runner. Last two years he has been the decoy running expert, hardly hit by Green at all last season. I suspect it'll be more of the same, hitting The Phantom out the back and bypassing Frankie.

Lane isn't an 80min player and is starting to warm to his new role.
Baz has shown he wants 11, 12 to be 6 & 7's bodyguards and hold up their side of the field defensively as well for the full 80mins, with the occasional offload.
Being a hole runner is not the priority unless of course one appears and then it's up to DCE and Croker to see it also and give the right pass.
With Jake playing 80mins and being a ball player as well as a defensive machine it's really only the props that get interchanged.
Not saying I wouldn't like a 2nd row wrecking ball but......

Well I was going to go to this game but I left my run to get tickets a little too late and it was sold out.

You aren’t that far away I thought you’d be going for sure.

Apparently stand seating ( not sure how many) sold out in about 10 mins.

And not sure how big the Oval is ( @mozgrame might know) but amazing to sell this out!!
