2017 Rugby League World Cup

Sambo has dropped the ball 3 times in a tackle and Ceccin gave him 2 penalties 😡

Tonga just lack ball security. Their D us good but their kicks are woefull 🙁
Yes funny thing about that, not!...Sambo and his antics 😡

Tonga couldn't handle the pressure and left their best for last. Then unfortunately Tonga were Checcined! :swear: Wouldn't blame the Tongans for causing a riot, but then its not in their nature...

Correct me if I am wrong, but in normal circumstances wouldn't it have been a scrum, and not play on?! And there wouldn't have been time to pack the scrum. Is this right?

i think this ruling is one(unfortunately amongst many) of the least consistently applied rules - whether to play on or pack a scrum after the team with possession loses control of the ball to the opposition.

i don't even know what's correct anymore, but i think it should only go to the scrum if it's an error both ways

Sht happens every game . Its part of life .
In the end if you are consistently good enough you take the prize .

What I couldn't believe was near the end when McGilvray had the ball with only Sika Manu to beat. I thought he should have gone for it and tried to beat Manu on the outside. At worst he would have been tackled.....but its likely that England would have still had the ball and that would have been it. But for some reason he decided to cut back inside and ended up losing it one on one giving Tonga that last chance.

Given how it worked out in play, his decision to cut back inside could very well have cost England the game and would have if (IMO) Cecchin had done his job properly.

Official attendance today was 30,003.

This was only the 3rd time that over 30k have attended a rugby league game at Mt Smart and is the 3rd highest attendance in stadium history.

1 - 32,174 - Auckland vs Illawarra, 16 April 1995
2 - 30,112 - Auckland vs Manly, 7 April 1995
3 - 30,003 - Tonga vs England, 2017 RLWC Semi-final, 25 November 2017

Edit: FYI the highest crowd for a New Zealand international at Mt Smart is 22,994 for the drawn first test of the 1993 Trans-Tasman Series against Australia.

It was a strip and it was one after he had already had someone attempt to tackle him so that's two in the tackle. Penalty at minimum. And if it is stripped (irrelevant if a loose carry, a strip is a stri) and the ball is regathered, that is in my understanding regaining possession. Bad ref call that one.
