Hopefully not our crop...which looks promising. Smart thinking though..
If it's true very smart
Darren said:Roosters have a kid at fullback Latrell Mitchell who they recruited from north coast is absolute dynamite. The guy who told me this said that they have changed their spending to literally buying the top juniors in the nrl teams. They probably didn't go after Tom T as they have Mitchell but Taylor is another big signing.
Also JWH, who was a boom recruit from rugby.Pepi said:Bloody Roosters. Mind you we have been doing this on a smaller scale with Hodkinson, Whare, T Rex, Chee Kam, Hiku and Sao.
Some pay off and some don't. I think Warwick is doing a great job on limited resources.
Yes but you don't get rid of a born bred local junior who has been with the club since he was 14 and gone through the system and is a gun player just like any other talented local junior. These are the kids you look after not the importsRiverEagle said:I'm disappointed (losin' Taylor) but I'll back Warwick and co. still at this point.
Apart from a top-heavy roster still (Choc or Skivi are not confirmed as "gone" yet) and blokes like TRed, Ferris, Hiku and JSL, to name a few come before the "kids" still too right now.
And we've done the same folks : Hodges, Hiku and Sao, Chee Kam, JLJ, Rudolph, Iosefea, Satini and even blokes like Tyson Andrews, Berryman and Blake Leary (a bit older but proven at a higher level than Holden Cup) have been bought in recent times. *Hopefully Jake and Tom T AND Gutherson of course are kept and looked after long-term too.
But we can't sign and/or keep everyone.
Dave Warwick is as good as it gets recruitment-wise IMO. (We did finish equal 1st remember).
As for Lussick @Disco
How long was his deal for with Parra?? (2 or 3 yrs?). He can't even cement a 1st-grade gig there. I'd let him (and Whoppa) come home but for less than half what they're gettin' at Parra.
Rather re-sign Blair, have kept Harrisson and perhaps Paulo or Fui Fui now; if given the choice, I mean.
RiverEagle said:I understand and agree with that @Harry
What I mean is (apart from how much the Rorters offered Charlie!) we can't keep everyone, nor offer "Monopoly" money-deals to young blokes (eg. look at how "well" Chee Kam has done so far). He was touted as a Raiders' young-gun set to go all the way. It's not automatically or even often true.
You know I support and want to keep as many local juniors here as we can mate.
The really good ones even moreso, obviously.
So I don't see it as us "getting rid of" a gun local junior.
Just that we may not have been able to compete with what the Rorters offered him right now. (If Manly had the money to look after Charlie, don't you think we would have?)
We don't cheat or rort the cap either.
We clearly couldn't match their deal; on top of who's ALREADY signed with Us for next year. He might've been "told" he'll play 1st-grade with them sooner, and so on, too. You know how these things work, Harry.

We can still keep Gutherson, Jake and Tom T, JHopoate (and even Stig and Knight etc.) mate.

TBH, I can't see either of them being regular 1st graders next year, maybe a handful of games each. Like most NYC guns, they can score tries but it's the defensive duties that finds them out.

Charlie is a specialist centre anyway. (Has played fullback and wing at times) but I believe he repped at centre.
I know it's all part of the business-side, and we've done it too; it just gives me the massive irrits that it was the Rorters that persuaded him over. (Even the Northern Beaches must be as good if not better than Bondi!).
And as said, with SBW and Minichello gone, there may be legit cash to splash. Fair enough. *I also feel if a local junior doesn't want to wait a year or two in our system for a shot at seniors, let him go.
