1977 Manly

Manly v Easts 1978

I was at this game. Easts had to win to make the finals, we needed to win to secure 3rd place. In that game I remember the Wombat taking a bomb and sprinting 90 metres to score a vital try. Great memory for me and what happened in the month after is club legend, probably the greatest Manly team, 4 premierships in 7 years. What a time it was to support the Eagles.

Geez those footy's look like big lumps of lead. Must've been terrible when wet!

Manly 1982 tries

1982 was an exciting year for the club. We won the KB cup beating Newtown 23-8 and we saw the emergence of the Blake brothers. I especially remember that win at Belmore in round 3 of that season. We had 2 players sent off, a penalty county of 18-7 against us and the team against all odds pulled off an 8-7 win in the wet. Also smashing Parra at home and in the major semi were huges wins. Pity we lost the one that counted to them cause we had their measure with 3 wins over them that season. Great memories and thanks so much Eagle66.

They were ... add some vaseline jelly that some players liked to cake their thighs with and the old leather ball was a nightmare. In wet conditions they would just about double their weight during a game and kicking them was risking breaking your foot. The chances of a winger holding one in one hand and diving to ground the ball was zero. Even with bigger players today and bigger hands they would still struggle.

PPS About the only bloke I can remember off-loading one handed was Beetson.

I guess in those days...a tiny infraction and hence a penalty didn't lead to a 40 - 50 metre kick upfield then!
