And no mention of De Belin's elbow on Lussick either.

I bet he was out of tune with everyone else.

    Lloyd Perrett & the Commotions

Agree. I think Perrett is a junior "footballer" who is learning to be a first grade forward. He seems to be developing confidence and authority on the field. Hoping he can develop into a BKII type player.

State of Origin Game III (2017)

Just a bit of trivia... Despite being only 16 or 17 years old, my father was one of the major instigators in the creation of the Harbord United club as a breakaway from the Freshie surf club. The surf club had an associated football club but many of the younger surf club players resented the...

    Aaron woods

Don't know about that. On tonight's performance we'd be better off with him on the field. Did you see him and Fifita wandering around in no-mans land for the last Qld try. No effort whatsoever.

    Blow up the bunker

And that would be fine if it was true, but it's clearly not. You can see DWZ's hand come onto the ball after Blake has already touched it.

One Penalty to the Opposition Every 5 minutes 42 seconds

Phi Gould: "The referees are told to give 16 penalties a game, that’s their marker, that’ their KPI,’’ he told Peter Sterling and James Bracey after the match. Eight-all, nine-seven, that’s their KPI, that’s what they look for. You’ve got to be really bad to concede more than that or to get...

One Penalty to the Opposition Every 5 minutes 42 seconds

14 is a lot of penalties in the modern game. Were Manly so bad and the Panthers so disciplined? Extremely doubtful in my opinion. When contested scrums were removed from the game (basically because fans were sick of referees deciding matches based on scrum penalties), the number of penalties...

    The passing of Wally O'Connell.

Heard Arko on Talkin' Sport yesterday. Described Wally as the best defender he has ever seen. Said that no-one ever got past him. Terry Randall was the hardest hitter ever, but Wally was the best overall defender. RIP.

    Offence Defence Stats

Agree. Teams who win comps generally have stable line ups and use low numbers of players throughout the season. Not saying we will win the comp this year but this is a good sign, particularly after the injury woes of the past few years.

Game Day: Manly v Knights [Round 14, 2017]

Last week when Croker moved the kick in closer to the posts actually reminded me of this match, because the opposite happened to Manly. You may recall we were down 16-0 but came back to be 16-all. The try to equalise was scored by Cheyse Blair about 10m in from touch. A "melee" followed the...

    Tomorrow's Paper

Well, everyone knows what the headlines will be tomorrow. And the next day. And the next. Stuff 'em I say. We all know the only reason Newcastle were in the game: penalty after penalty until they scored. As usual the refs did their best to sway the result. Yet another home game with a lost...

Doorman Vs Frogs eyes, 100m sprint.

From Wikipedia "Johnny Bliss wasn't just a rugby league player though. He was also a highly successful beach sprint champion. He won an amazing 12 Australian championships in a row from 1939 to 1952. A record that may never be equalled or broken and he even attempted a comeback at the age of 38...

    More media gossip

In terms of the off contract back rowers I'd take a look at Sitaleki Akauola. Getting bigger and better every season and wouldn't be on huge money. Runs the ball like a maniac and gives the Panthers good go forward coming off the bench.

    Vale Glenn Thorpe

Another old photo: First Grade match Manly v Western Suburbs at the SCG, April 16 1955. Glenn Thorpe tackles West's Bill Carson. Bill played for Australia and later became President of the Western Suburbs club. The Manly player on the left is Roy Bull who also played for Australia and later...

    Vale Glenn Thorpe

Picture of the 1954 Reserve Grade Premiers. This was the first Manly team to win a premiership in any grade. Glenn Thorpe is top row, far right. Many of these players went on to play first grade.
