Well, everyone knows what the headlines will be tomorrow. And the next day. And the next. Stuff 'em I say. We all know the only reason Newcastle were in the game: penalty after penalty until they scored. As usual the refs did their best to sway the result. Yet another home game with a lost penalty count.

And, of course, the "experts" never actually analyse the decisive play they deem so controversial. Was it actually a knock-on? Was it stripped from behind?

Who cares? MANLY WON!

Manly score 18-14 win over Newcastle on the back of shocking refereeing decision
PAUL CRAWLEY, The Daily Telegraph

The NRL’s bumbling match officials were under fire in driving rain at Lottoland after Akuila Uate finished a controversial hero in Manly’s 18-14 win over Newcastle.

Playing his first game against his former club who are still paying half his wage, Uate added to the pain for last placed Knights when he was awarded a crucial second half try despite losing possession short of the line.

With the scores at 12-8 in the 59th minute, Uate conned the on field officials when he came up smiling claiming the try.

But replays clearly showed he had lost possession.

Unbelievably, in slippery conditions the referees decided not to go to the bunker for a second opinion and in the end that call was the difference in what can only be labelled a heartbreaking loss for the struggling Knights.

What made it worse was the fact Danny Levi returned from a concussion test to score a try in the final five minutes which would have put his team ahead had Uate’s second try been correctly denied.

Newcastle battled bravely in the tough conditions all the way to the final hooter after leading 8-6 at halftime.

It was Klein in the 2008 world cup final ruled a strip from behind that let the Kiwis go on to score a try and win the game. But Klein was a UK Super League referee back then & the video referee was a pommy too. In the NRL they (wrongly) call it a knock on every day of the week. There was a Maroons 'try' in last week's Origin was that was ruled by the referees as a Maroons knock on after a Blues player from behind knocked the ball out.

See Benji at about 1m 24 secs.

A player trying to dupe the refs into thinking they've scored a try....well fark me that's a first!

And off course the wrong 40/20 call that was a full metre before the 20 metre line. So if I apply Creepy's logic, we would have won the scrum, marched up field, forced a dropout and scored under the posts on the next set. Then we score again off the kick-off. See how easy it is to qualify as a journo these days.
Yeah Newcastle got a penalty conversion off the back of that wrong 40/20 ruling. Let's take the 2 points off them shall we?

Yep KFC will be getting plenty of ads in for the rest of the weekend and next, until the media find another meaningful article about Manly.

Mind you we'd all be filthy about it if it was against us... but 2 pts for us

A relo of mine knows Crawley quite well and talks a lot of footy with him ( Manly supporter of course ) ...relo not crawley, and reminds him of his anti Manly tirades, and it stems from supporting his brother who's involved with Canberra and how they think we constantly rip them off.
Personally I think it's cause he looks like he keeps his face in a matchbox.

Classic. Crawley thinks the game would have panned out exactly the same from the point of the disallowed try. Perfect dumb logic for the slow-witted outraged tabloid readers out there.
Exactly. Uate scored in the 59th minute so there was still 21 minutes left to go. There is no way the game would have gone on the same way if the try had been disallowed. Manly would have likely scored soon afterwards anyway.

A Newcastle player actually stripped the ball so I reckon it still would've been awarded if it went to the bunker.
Incorrect. The ball may be stripped from the ball carrier if the ball carrier is attempting to ground the ball for a try

Well we had alot of ref calls go against and alot of unneccesary penalties to newcastle.

We get one call that went our way. Its a rarity but we will take it.
