I don't bring up Toovey, because as I said, I am not the one making comparisons ... you will find that I only mention Barrett when someone else does ....I only deal with Des as Des ... and Barrett as Barrett ...

But for the record, I don't believe Toovey's demise was as much about coaching, as it was about politics and a deep rift in the playing group ....and it is no secret that I am not a fan of Penn and the way he has dealt with just about everybody that has ever been at the Club ... but again, there are those on Silvertails that believe Toovey was done as a coach .... I don't know ?

Yeah fair point. Jesus I hope things improve next year so we can all start looking forward. I think thats the biggest problem is that we are forced to be looking backward all the time because the future is somewhat cloudy. I just hope Des has a good plan and it works. I actually think he does but sometimes I think he outsmarts himself whilst trying to outsmart everyone else.
 
I listened to this and I do agree with his assessment on Forans signing. He also underlined the Schuster situation and mentioned that there was a clear the air meeting on Friday last between the kid, his Mum, manager, Hasler and Stephen Humphries where it was stated that Foran would be in the 9 role for 2021.

Zorba rightly pointed out that Foran wont be able to train pretty much until the new year due to his pec injury and that is a huge gamble the club has taken in signing him.

This is also assuming that Fainu is going to be exonerated from his charge.

For the life of me I do not understand why we do not sign a specialist 9!!

Really can not see that many specialist or reasonably rated 9 "s available right now . So much revolving around [ and uncertainty with ] Fainu being available late next season . Then the suggestion that Cust or Foz will be the main considerations at 9 for the start of next year . Be interesting to be aware of Schuster "s actual preference of playing positions , every indication that it is at 6 . Obviously has to be some flexibility with his versatility and his background as an edge forward and again if he has a preference for a set position , going to have some bearing on his place in the side next season .

Zorba is entitled to his opinion as we all are
His first opinion was way off the mark when he said that Schuster would leave if Foran is singed
We all know that Schuster is staying

His Second opinion is that Foran will not give value to Manly because his body wont hold up and he does not think Foran can excel at 9

There are two sides to Forans signing . A positive one and a Negative one and there are more positives points than negative ones when you weight everything out
The positives are that Foran is a proven competitor .
He comes at a bargain price with only a one year contract with a second in our favour
He will be a great mentor to Schuster and the other young players and should also be an inspiration
He is one of the best readers of the game at that is one of the main number 9s attributes
Foz is a smart player that takes smart options on the field and will be a massive upgrade on all the mediocre players that have filled the position this year that Foran is taking over
He will have a over a full off season to take care of his body and heal
There is no guarantee that Forans body will hold up or break down
Nothing is for certain
I say to Peter Peters and all the doubters ....

I think Foz at #9 (starter or off the bench) will be a success. He has more mettle and a better skill set (reading the game and passing the ball) than Cam Smith has built a career at #9 with.

And as the Broncos 2020 have proven, you can't win with a team of inexperienced kids. Foran can do what Ben Kennedy did for a young Manly team in 05/06.

The most affective number 9s in the game are the smart operators that take the smart options like when to run , when to pass , who to pass to , when to kick etc .
We have seen all year how dumb plays fcked up our momentum and in the end our whole season.
Foran is a smart operator and our club has made a smart move to pick him up for next season

Guess that it just the high and demanding work rate that seems to be required for a 9 role , especially with the rule changes and in regard to Foz playing there . Especially for any starting 9 . Not to say that Foz could not give it a fair crack there but again just a bit of concern with the durability factor . No question that he would be able to give the side some good direction though . Just a shame that the justice system has such a drag with its processes , unavoidable and just have to try and find some solutions at nine before the Fainu matter is settled one way or another ..

Those that play or at least in the bubble for Origin,won’t be back at pre season training until close to New Years either.Not sure when pre season will likely start anyway
 
It has taken a while swirling around my mind. But I've come to terms with it, I can see what DES is trying to do, and look I'm now on board with Foran returning. And playing hooker.

My biggest concern was the length and price. But a 1 year deal and club having the follow year option at $300ish.

The gamble is as simple as asking. Who offers more Levi or Foran? One is an average hooker who Croker an average five eight has bettered at hooker this season. The others body has struggled in recent years, but he has also been a player a class above them all too.

Get used to it folks. Foran is playing hooker. Prob start on bench and have 30-40 minutes to Ice the game.
 
Zorba definitely has an agenda against Foran. I'm actually warming to him at hooker, will test his body but has a smart footy brain, will make the right decisions unlike Levi and Crocker, kicking game, will engage the Forwards and another leader on the field. Also, much much better back up half than Crocker!!
 
Whats happening with Zach Docker Clay?
Instead of player interviews we'd rather hear about team direction and players to watch out for.

No real good specialist 9 available except Starling who wants to remain in Canberra.

Thing is hard to go out and buy a real good 9, knowing we have signed Faniu as long term 9. Needs to be short term contract and that is why they went Foran. Cheap, 1 year contract, can cover half/ 5/8 for injuries, experience. Need better service at hooker.
