World Cup 2022

I'm borrowing Kayo from my son for the world cup and I can't tell you how much that moron Voss p!sses me off, I can't cop it when he launches into his comedy routine, he's about as funny as a wet fart, I want to hear intelligent factual commentary not the sh!t this clown dishes up🤬🤬🤬

I'm sure there's a joke here about silvertails. But...I can't can't seem to put my finger on it.

Arguably "intelligent factual commentary" and the average "Silvertail" is a contradiction in terms. There are of course some notable exceptions to the rule.

I am enjoying the pommy commentators. They fluff some names/positions and changes. Eg. the other night they called a player, then the other one corrected him. There is silence for a while, then the original bloke says, "Well ow bloody long as e been on? I can’t be expected to give great commentary as well as tell yer when the wee bains on or off the pitch". I was pissing myself. You just know if they had a shot of the commentary box, there’d be no water/Gatorade bottles. There’d be plenty of empty pint glasses though.
Also enjoying James Graham as a commentator as well.

Nearly all grounds are soccer fields in the UK, therefore short in goals, vossy mentioned each half only 46mts so they can have larger in goals as there's been complaints about how short and dangerous they are.

For some reason even some league grounds that aren't also soccer pitches in England seem to have trouble making the regulation weight.

Even old Knowlsey Road (St Helens) was only actually 90 metres try line to try line. Their marked out 10 metres was actually just 9.....

Did you know that of the top 6 capacity stadiums being used in this World Cup (in capacity order: Old Trafford, Emirates Stadium, St James' Park, Elland Road, Riverside Stadium and Coventry Arena) ... only Coventry which was originally built as a rugby union stadium for the Coventry Wasps that they just happen to ground share with Coventry City FC, features a full size regulation rugby league field (100 x 68 with at least 6 metres in each in goals).

Old Trafford as a rugby league ground does not even come close to a regulation size field. Personally I think that the Finals should have been held at Wembley back in 2013 and it should be at Wembley in 2022 (or is it 2021.....?)

The grounds were originally measured in yards, so a 100yd pitch + in-goal would have been the norm and the perimeter fence and grandstands added later. 120+ years later and everything is metric but where is the space going to come from to make the pitch bigger? The only solution is to have pitch dimensions which may not be 100m and therefore can't be marked out with 10m increments.
Incidentally the Coventry stadium was originally built for the soccer team, but they very quickly got into a disagreement with the landlord and moved out.

I'll admit that I didn't consider that back when the old grounds like Knowsley Road came to be that they would have measured in yards and not metres. 1890 when the ground was built was a tad different to 2022. Incidentally, the Totally Wicked Stadium's field is big enough for a full size rugby league pitch. But in an effort to have fans closer to the action, beyond the dead ball line is a very short area at each end (about 3-4 metres) which can be dangerous as Luke Lewis found out at St Helens in the 2013 World Cup.

Although the club is currently under court ordered administration, the Coventry Arena is owned by the Wasps. Coventry City are just a tenant. However, I do concede that the stadium was originally built for City to move away from the old Highfield Road ground. That the pitch size is big enough to house full size union and league fields is probably a happy coincidence.

The yards bit would also explain why quite a few of the old Super League clubs grounds still in use such as Wheldon Road (Castleford) are like Knowsley Road was, smaller than metric regulation size

How embarrassing that the PNG anthem is some colonial anachronistic throw back. It's so grossly inappropriate and I hope they move to change it in the near future.

I still don't get why ours needed to be changed, even if it was only a couple of words. I guess Scummo had to leave his mark on something.....

Even though DW Sadium was originally conceived with Wigan Athletic in mind, the size of the field (120m long) does allow for a full size rugby league field.

And unlike yesterday in Huddersfield, at least the groundskeepers in Wigan have marked out a league field. Although being football season the soccer field is also marked out (Wigan Athletic lost 0−1 to Stoke City at DW last Wednesday).

Who cares how big the grounds are when we get these one-sided boring white washes. This is a quarter final apparently?

Alex Johnston in this game showing why he never made it at fullback for Souths like everyone originally thought he would. His positioning at the back is woeful.
