Who should we buy for next year

At this stage I am still angry and far from impressed at how our management have stuffed things up so much with our recruitment. And really would only be mildly o.k if we secured the following on a fair wage (not inflated) with performance incentives also factored into the contract......

Halfback: Elgey.
Five Eighth: Widdop.
Prop: Tom Burgess.

We have a long way to go and the management have a lot of work to do before I feel confident that the Mighty Sea Eagles are in good hands.......!

Im surprised they haven't hit back with any good news signings yet. Besides Matty Ballin being close to signing. When is a reasonable time to lose patience with management? Gutherson should be the first cab of the rank I would think.

If the NRL bring in the reduced interchange rule, then we need stayers and not big boppers.

Jamie, Tred, Starlo, Lui, Leary, JSL, Jake can all play 80 mins @:)

Parra's investment in Choc is karma indeed, as the minutes he can maintain is dwindling with his hairline :giggle:

It's an important year for our recruitment team, in the past we have been ahead of the game in identifying young talent and cherry picking from experienced players that need a freshen-up at a new club.

The loss of the halves might suggest our management has lost its marbles, or it may be that losing both was always contemplated.

I'd be happy if we targeted (and landed) a top prop - Burgess, Bromwich, Matulino ( doesn't matter if they're under contract) plus a couple of top young 'footballers' of any position, Peachey types. That would certainly replenish our squad, we don't need necessarily to nab the 'big-name' type halves on offer.
Added to this tying up our youth, which seems to be doing quite well. The club doesn't need to spend the entire cap in one go. I believe the club should go back to it's earlier days post Northern Eagles where the focus was purchasing a marquee player each year and a few fringe first graders and a focus on youth.

Outside the cap investing funds to build their own centre of excellence like the Dogs and Penrith have done.

Maloney has said today he knows nothing of an offer from us.
I wonder what we are planning. Surely we are not sitting on our hands waiting for a decent half to knock on our door.

Given the emotional overload on here (me included ) last month, I really think in salary cap terms we may have dodged a bullet.
Spoke to friend who is eels fans he is nervous as to who they can recruit longterm with money foran is on, in couple years time they will have to shed some good players.
What we should not do is in forward market not go silly if this interchange cut rule happens game in middle will be totally different.
Yes we need halfs, I think if chooks don't want Maloney for bubbler then give him a good deal given his family is on cc it could be an attractive proposition.
At 7 there seems not much out there elgy or sezer I would say, hodgkinson and sandow seem set to stay while Norman seems headed to titans. Rumours of widdop but cannot see saints letting him go doubt is already under pressure.
So sharkies are after a 7 and will we need both, it seems we will be fighting will them for Maloney, sezer and elgy. But it all depends what happens with carney.
If we get none then put littlejohn at 6 and give a young kid in our system a go.

just knuckle down and go all in for kane elgey, and either widdop/maloney at five-eighth.
go all out for tom burgess as well.
martin taupau should be a priority as well, has great potential and who wants to stay at the tigers?

Maloney does a very good job of keeping a straight face when telling a joke (he is quite the character if you have never seen him on the Footy show).

If he is that sort of person, I have no doubt him lying to the media quite confidently. If its true the chooks are circling carney, maloney has surely been approached (if not his manager reaching out to clubs.)

1. Kane Elgey
2. Ryan Matterson
3. Tom Burgess
4. James Maloney
5. Chris Hill

Matterson and Hill are under contract, but it'd be nice to see the club do what others have done to us - offer dollars and/or opportunity, stir up dissatisfaction and hopefully force a release.

We should chase Rangi.

Seriously these clips are not the full story. He is bang average and a sulk if his team are getting beat. There's a reason none of the top ESL teams have even took him. For every highlight theres a kick out on the full, throwing the ball in to touch etc. Not up to the standard Im afraid. Same for Matty Smith.

He was the ESL player of the year a couple of years ago so he's not doing too bad. I think his style of play would fit in well with us. Great passing game and not afraid to take on the line.

Yeh I know, and the guys made a career off the back of it, been nowhere near that form since. Also the ESL man of steel award is discredited by the fact that they just pick the flavour of the month at that time, it's not based on the guys who deserve it across the full season.

Trust me mate, he's not worth it. If he were, he'd have gone to a club like St.Helens, Leeds, Wigan or Warrington. Instead he's moved from Castleford and Salford who between them have made the play-offs like 4 times in the last ten years. Chase is a classic big fish in a small pond.

Doubt Manly will do anything "formally" till the clock ticks 30 June.
I'm sure they are still holding out on the possibility 1 of them will change their mind.

It's a good look for the fans that they are waiting (the hope of a mind change).

Signing anyone may as well wait till July 1.
