what else does the site need?

It is a tough one as when a thread goes off topic it can be great...but then again it can be terrible, especially for the long running threads.

I am also all in for a podcast and happy to help if anyone wants to start one

I think in the future that these sort of forums will move more towards fan site communities. With the prevalence of social media taking up the role of traditional forums, blog style communities with the facilities for discussion are probably the go.

For example, see the Texans Battle Red Blog (and community):

https://www.battleredblog.com/

And Jets:

https://www.ganggreennation.com/

Some way of compiling news regarding the club, facilitating discussions and allowing for fan created content to be generated and discussed.

Note: I am not a coder or developer and do not wish for the above to necessarily be implemented on silvertails, but believe there is some ideas here that may be useful.

Also, thanks Dan for running the site!

I love Silvertails and can’t see any obvious ways that don’t take sustained intensive effort to upgrade things. I like the ideas of more club contact ala Aaron/Larissa; a Slivertails podcast is something I’d listen to (I’m a @ScreamingEagles devotee but they are limited in how many episodes they can muster up); clearing out the filler in the informative threads is a wish - whoever polices the Rumour/Signings thread does it well but it would be a pain I’m sure. The banter and interaction is what draws me here (along with inside info) and some of the funniest moments have come out of the forum fostering the pub style atmosphere but there are many threads so clogged up with unfunny injokes, axes being ground and general chat that the rubbish vs solid info ratio pushes me away.

Getting a higher female input would be worth fostering. How about getting some younger fan involvement? The pace and fluidity of those in their 20s could influence how Silvertails could evolve in ways guys like me would enjoy but couldn’t conceive.

Is there some way of tying into what Mark Bryant is building with the Golden Eagles? Seeing the ex Manly players banter on social media is awesome and builds the spirit we love about the Sea Eagles. Donny Singe was posting today about going to Brooky with these guys. Surely there’s a way to help each other out, we all want to relive the glory days and see more as they unfold. No idea how that might look sorry.

So without investing a full time media manager, the way Silvertails is is perfect. I’m gonna keep coming back. Any efforts to upgrade will be gratefully appreciated...

Golden Eagles was a Penn initiative along with Boxy just as an FYI 🙂

But all good thoughts cheers

Great ladder Dan, thanks. Any chance of putting up the weekly fixtures on mondays? The ridiculous new NRL site doesn't any more, 90% of the front page is taken up with useless photos, no info. Idiots.@@

As I said, terrible idea those Golden Eagles 😀 (now I’m clogging this thread up with pointless posting :banghead:)

The only one for me is a 'return to forum' (e.g. return to rugby league forum) button (or a copy of the breadcrumbs) after the last post or below the post entry field.

If you post on page that already has a number of posts, you are a fair way down the page. So to get back to the threads/forum page, you need to either scroll up/use the scroll arrows (at right) and then use the breadcrumbs, or select the forum button from the menu bar, then choose the right fourm.

This is more beneficial for smaller view ports as the scroll up buttons are small and the menu changes to a overlay.

Just makes it a one step process to get back.

I also realise I could just be less lazy and scroll back up. 😉

A direction for new members making their first posts to help them realise where their post will end up.
Most post on some other thing than the rugby league forum like I did and I've seen it happen many times since.

@Dan just a novel idea that might be good and has potential fundraising potential is a ladder prediction comp. (Sorry if this idea has been floated before).

The way I see it, we keep it simple. You pick the ladder from 1 to 16, no points, differential, etc... just straightforward 1 to 16.

Winner is the person who predicts the most positions correctly, and in the event of a tie break the winner is the person who predicted the highest ladder position (e.g. minor premiers).

We make entry available from January through to kick off Rd1 (or perhaps a few rounds in) so you have a chance for some calculated predictions.

To keep the interest during the season, we could have a monthly update. Mabye stating things like who would win at various points in the season, who has picked some howlers (e.g. parra for minor premiers 😉 ), who took some random gambles that looking like paying off, etc... I am happy to do this update if you want/need.

It also has the potential to be a fundraising opportunity. Perhaps you have the option to pay a bit extra on the tipping comp and get entry for both. Mabye we could have a prize to incentivise participation.

Anyway, just an idea.

Could we get a black cloud or a black dog rating. Dislike, yartastitc or dummy spit doesn’t always do it for me. I want to rate some of the doom and gloom posts for what they are. A silver linings one would be cool to but I guess that’s like optimistic.

Also a medal for 1000 positive ratings haha. I swear this isn’t self indulgent hahahaha
