It is hard to rest from being passionate about Manly
In reality there’s only a few hookers that do everything AND have a running game as well.
So they are few and far between.
Points 1-3 for me and if they have 4 as well then perfect.

In today's game you absolutely need great service and a good tackler but you also really need someone that can jump out of dummy half and make yards when the markers are lazy and the defence is on the back foot. Something Croker isn't great at. Someone who can create a half break from nothing.
Can anyone name a hooker that ticks all 4 of those boxes?
Cook would be the closest but even his running game has dropped off a bit as he has improved in the other areas.
Cam Smith is the GOAT hooker and even he wasnt a huge running threat.
Seems like this perfect hooker may well be a 🦄
Service and Defence are nonnegotiables, anything else is a bonus.

Smith wasn't a huge running threat but what he was - he was fabulous at identifying when the markers were lazy and the defence on the back foot and he would have a run then - generally not to run and score himself - he wasn't quick enough - but to set up someone else and put them into a hole. A great dummy half knows when to jump out and make the most of a disorganised defence.
Just realised I made an oversight... Api just may be the most well rounded hooker currently playing. Makes the Manase situation twice as painful, we not only lost a great hooker, we lost 2. Thank god Croker has given us some stability at 9.
A hooker who has a good kicking game, both close to the line and a long kick when the defence is on the back foot would also be handy. Not as important as the first three skills though.
Good point .. I missed a good kicking game.. certainly another good attribute for an all round hooker..
Yep he did exactly what Des asked of him last year ,and competently .
I think Des has already asked him to add a bit more this year.
Des is big on everyone has their own job and their own strength and weaknesses ,when somethings not working -Keep it simple.
Croker is the least of our worries at the start of this year.
At the very least it's an indication of his '22 prospects.
Starting off in Blacktown .
Sure does look fit still though.Very Handy replacement .
More of a third guy if either Croker or Lawton go down.
