I have a feeling that we have already singed a 5/8 for next year in Moses. No evidence to back this other than his contract talks and his media exposure has gone suspiciously quite.

I don't think so. Announced on fox sports this morning that Moses and Klemmer had re-signed with dogs.

Dont shoot me down and i know its to late BUT could of we got another year out of killer at 6 in 17 . Just thinking if he excels for the remainder of this season and we slip into the finals , whats the chances of killer pulling the retirement thing . Me personally i think its a no brainer. Sign the country boy up for one last crack.

It's funny you say that I did wonder the same thing. The only negative I would say is that I doubt Killer would have wanted to play 5/8 for the next 1 and a half years, but I could be wrong.

I think he has been more inclined to move to 6 knowing that he only has to do it for another couple of months and then rest from the increased workload.

Please not him. Need someone steady at 5/8th

I wouldn't be unhappy if Moses was the option we went with at 5/8. I reckon he is the better of the two Tiger cubs, for starters.

The other thing is, he is a genuine half with a pretty good skill set, and his game management in terms of kicking etc is actually pretty smart when they switch off the ADHD razzle-dazzle stuff. The Sunday game on Nein a few weeks ago (can't remember who they played), Brooks was very quiet, it was Moses putting kicks into touch right in the corner when they needed it etc. DCE obviously has the same abilities, and both can whip out a 40/20 or a field goal when needed.

Our big problem at the moment is what Corey Parker pointed out - DCE is our only 'target' in attack. Other teams know you only have to shut him down. Thurston was similar to this a few years ago - teams knew to beat NQ, 'shut Thurston down' and you were pretty much done. Now, if they go after JT, they have Morgan, Coote, Granville, Kostjasyn to worry about as well. I think Parcell will be one of those for us (has already shown glimpses), as will Tommy at the back.

What we need is the guy in the middle of the field who will also make the defence second-guess themselves. Mitch Moses definitely has the ability to do that. FWIW, I don't necessarily think having a pure 'organiser' to drive the team around the park is the be-all and end-all. It's a simple game; if you know to back up the forward who's likely to pop an offload, and you have combos running on each side of the field with a creative half who can set up his centres or wide-running back-rowers (a la the DCE to Buhrer try last night) - you constantly have the defence questioning who's getting the ball and which way they need to slide. Add in to that a fullback who can chime in to the backline, and a hooker who knows which side he needs to get the ball to or when he needs to put the foot down and scoot out of dummy-half, and you have the makings of a strong, creative attack with the lick of unpredictability that you need.

Sorry for the long post, the Mitch Moses idea got me thinking about whether we really do need a pure organising half. Obviously, I don't think we do - just a 5/8 with the proper 'halves' skill-set, who isn't a ball hog! @:p

Walker looked very good at center. Real dangerous so much speed and evasive. Much better center then hiku. Right choice. Tom really surprised me. Handled bird with ease and constantly looked like busting thru. Plus scored a try. He is a big boy. 104kg. Think his speed helps his D. Able to cover anyone for pace.

We get a decent 5/8 and a prop and think it will make a massive difference next year. Glad brown stepped up and played like a nz rep. Buhrer was a welcome addition

It will more than likely be the salary cap that will prevent it and the likelihood of signing someone else . But after last night and i know its only one game , but it could work . Why killer wouldnt want to play 6 is beyond me . Funny 4 weeks ago he wanted another contract then retires at seasons end . My ex would play with my head now this . Time for a coldy.

so finally barret moved killer into 5/8, and we all witnessed the effect. Walker is a centre. So with that out of the way should we be Persuing a quality 5/8 for next year or do we already have one in api? For me I'd be going for Blake green or Luke keary.

I also got shot down for saying that I'd heard on the grape vine that those in the know on the beaches had told me that tommy t was seen as a future centre. So with tommy t being thrust into centre lastnight and looking the goods it leaves us with a fullback position up for grabs if snake decides to pull the plug! I thought we needed forwards but in reality we need backs. Wish gutherson was still at the club. Who would you go for? Was great to see killer back in the 5/8 roll with ball in his hands early.

Maybe it took souths swapping Inglis to 5/8th for Trent to realise big changes can happen??

Maybe someone explained to him that if you play in a different position....it doesn't add to the salary cap!

Mate. Im with you. Everyone can see it. All the commentators keep pointing it out. Teams need 2 genuine playmakers. Dce is an instinctive player and plays off the back of good structure in front of him. Barrett knows this and thought he could do it by himself but he cant!

He needs a player like foran to just run the simple plays and steer the fowards and has a good short passing and kicking game. (Foran could also defend and was a tough leader. Missed more than i thought)

We need another 5/8. Then we will see the best from dce. He wont have to do absolutely everything ! Can just play his natural game

Toms future is at fullback Barrett said so himself Tom is the clubs future fullback. Blake green is too old

$1.3 mil & we understandingly accept that he's not able to be our 'on-field general'. That responsibility can go to a kid we buy for half the price. So if Ash Taylor did decided to come to Manly, he'd be our chief playmaker, on $300k. 'Wake the **** up Cherry'!!!!!!!! That's embarrassing on his behalf.

This is all speculation but I was told Manly are targeting Blake Green. Melbourne can't afford him anymore because of the Cronk re-signing so he is on the hunt for a new club and we are interested.

Blake Green would be a pretty good 2-3 year half honestly, he had a rough start of his career but he has come back from England and has been pretty good at Melbourne (outplaying Cronk on a few occasions, especially at the start of this year). Also, he would probably be pretty cheap, so that's nice.

Whoever we sign, we need a goal kicker. Unless we sign a winger/centre to kick goals.

I wouldnt mind mitch moses, he has a lot of potential and wont cost a fortune.

Norman is my preference, but he wants alot of coin. Probably too much.

Hastings is the other option but he has to come cheap.

Does inglis justify his million a season pay packet, I would think not . Cherry is trying his guts out , cant ask anymore then that . He may need someone inside him to play his natural game but at the moment he is having a full hearted crack . Im not dissing your input in anyway, but this is a transition year and i think some are putting to much pressure on our little general. Give it time and everyone will appreciate him like me.

Yeh DCE is giving 100% & part of a disjointed spine lacking cohesion that looked 30% better last night with Lyon, though not a specialist 5/8, a seasoned organiser who can easily steer a side around...all that's needed really.
Do not need a sluggish Green type & prefer a pacey Moses 5/8 like Barrett wanted with Walker ....the modern game is designed for this - the only thing that killed Walker at 6 was indecision as his first instinct is to run, as it should be....but had little backup plan when it came to ball playing.
Actually enjoyed the Manly attack for the first time in 2016 against good defence & a top side so....looks good for the back part of the season...

I was wondering if we could get Gutherson back if Tommy is going to be a centre. After all he only left because he was told he was down the pecking order and Tommy was going to be full back.
