V'landy missing V'landy-ball (game speed)

Found many of Manly 's games in 2020 to be some of the most boring and lack luster outcomes going , so much better last season whatever the prevailing rules or interpretation of the rules . Bit better against the Raiders but compared with last season . Manly in 2021 were playing much better open and entertaining footy [ granted with Tom on fire for a good part of it ] , the type of footy which suited the general make up of the side and widely acknowledged by the majority of the R L public . Just looks how many tries Tom , Sabb and Marty scored between them and as beneficiaries of the 2021 rules . While not without a couple of negatives , give me the 2021 rules anytime .

Gee , not sure where my thought process was going there and not Garrick for Marty as a prolific try scorer last season , Too many distractions but still .

The play-the-ball is definitely being slowed for too long this season.
And while on rules, the obstruction rule has become ridiculous and is being rorted.

V’landys is off his head. The quality of games has been great and it feels like the fabric of the game has returned ten-fold last week.

People complained about the quality of the Thursday nights game of the titans vs tigers but I’d rather have watched that game than the bore fest of parra vs dragons blowout.
Just goes to show different people can watch the same games and come away with pollar opposite thoughts.

Personally, and I'm not talking about the game being faster or slower, but the actual quality of football I thought has been terrible with the exception of a few games. Just because games are close doesn't make the lack of quality acceptable.
I'm not advocating for a return to senseless 6 again style like last year where the ref's wanted to wave 6 again before a player hit the deck amd felt that was too fast, but there has to be some medium reached between the two.

Meant to type this season* not last week.

But I agree, I just hope it doesn’t go back overboard and 6 agains blown just for the sake of it.

To the absolute surprise of no-one, studs up slater is like: "wrestle? what wrestle? Game is good."

I swear the storm are like a cult, you never say anything bad about them if you're a past player otherwise they'll "get ya".

n.e.way.... /rant

Rugby league great Billy Slater says the current NRL product is good and shouldn't be altered amid suggestions the wrestle is slowing down the speed of the game.

"The wrestle has always been in the game. I don't know what game we've been watching if we think teams aren't supposed to slow the ruck down," Slater said on 2GB's Wide World of Sports radio.
"That's their job. Defensive teams want to play slow.
"I think it's been good. I don't even know what we're talking about.
"We're looking at data and stats. - (well, that'd be what they're looking at, then talking about- ya goose. Fact and like stuff)
The product is good, just leave it."

morning! 🙂

Though I don't think anyone really liked the blow-out scores of last year.

I don't let the refs off entirely for that one either. The 6 again rule was for an infraction that was 'deserved of a penalty' but as usual, the refs blew the pea outta the whistle if the players threw some side eye at a player for a tenth of a second. It was ridiculous.

Now coaches are never going to agree to a 5 min sin bin (because of the fear refs will use it 10000000 times a game). With the 10 minute situation, refs are reluctant to use it unless the game is well and truly decided. But maybe if there was a 10 min bin and the player comes back on if the opposition score a try (like hockey) that could be something.

But none of this works if the refs continually let one team lay all over the other, but only penalise the 'other'. Their lack of consistency is breath-taking at times.

And without a hint of irony, Ricky is cranky at 'self invested' coaches.

But Raiders coach Stuart has pushed back at claims wrestling has increased, accusing rival coaches of pushing their own agendas at the detriment of the game as a whole.

“I’m enjoying the game as a spectacle a lot more than what I was at this time last year,” he told The Herald.

“It’s self invested interest from a coach, or coaches, that are talking to the media. If they want to have less stoppages, they’ve got to have players stop faking crusher tackles and going down with a slight tap across the chin.

I would like to see the stats on injuries. I suspect they are significantly less with a the game being slower.

I’m looking forward to V’landys coming out and saying that the game is as fast as last year and that fans don’t know what they are talking about.

I don’t mind the game being a bit slower though. I’m not a fan of having games refereed one way for 25 rounds, only to be refereed differently in the finals (as was the case last year, imo).

Does Ricky really not realise that a coach who is happy to slow the game down and pile four defenders into every tackle is also "self invested"?
