Turbo tied up long term

It should be noted that the NRL don't take to kindly to contract extensions wherein the player has a well known history of medical issues at the time contract negotiations are occurring and then a multi-year deal is agreed too by both the player and the NRL club.

Will they have any problem with Tom's deal then?

Personally very happy to keep Turbo. The attitude of the Turbos, and loyalty to Manly is an important part of the puzzle to win our next premiership IMO.
I reckon a team full of Jake-attitudes, and we win one.

He's been here 12 freaking years for 0 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

The deal being discussed is a one year option into 2027 however, the issue with his concussions is playing some weight in relation to a duty of care to Jake if he was to continue playing, both by the Club and Jake's own advisors.

It leads to the later issue of the NRL potentially declining a medical retirement request on the basis of the medical condition being known at the time the offer is made by a NRL Club.

A majority of NRL clubs are now relying on guidance from the NRL about issues that may arise during the course of a subsequent contract, so in our case, the one year extension is in play to limit the possible exposure, in terms of salary cap "loss", should the club be faced with the possibility of a medical retirement in 2027.

It may happen in 2026 and that would be dealt with under the current contract arrangements.
Appreciate the detail mate, that really puts the contract situation in perspective.

From my point of view, I honestly don’t see how Jake should be going past 2026, let alone 2027 — I’ve said before that his output has already dropped off significantly, and then when you add the concussion risk, it feels like a big ask for him to play on, where the risks almost certainly outweigh the benefits.

Do you think there’s a genuine chance he retires at the end of next season and turns down Manly’s 1-year extension? Or is it more a game-by-game situation at this point, where another concussion would probably mean immediate retirement given his history?

Any idea what’s going on with Croker? I cannot believe he hasn’t retired with all his serious concussions. Seems like utter madness to me

Im glad he's made the decision to stay with the club he so obviously loves. I believe he wants to make it up to the club and its fans, for the horror injury toll he's experienced. Not his fault, just bad luck. He & his brothers are loyal, well raised honest hard working people who worship this footy club. Therefore when it's time for Jake, im sure he'll do what's right, and move on to his next challenge.
This loyalty is rare in this day and age. Good luck lads. Looking forward to some great days ahead.

Watching the way he played against Saints was so enjoyable. I love those special competitors that are always scheming around the ball, thinking and looking for opportunities. He’s a true competitor and such a smart footballer. The opposition **** themselves when he is on the team sheet because he’s always capable of destroying someone’s career.

I'm glad Tom is staying. But realistically he's played about 4 games this season where he would justify a 850k salary.
Silvertails (acknowledged worldwide as the experts in Manly players form) voted him MOM in R1 v Cows and R26 v Saints
He played 18 games and finished equal 6th in the MVP with Garrick, 21 games as winger and centre - who no-one thinks is a million dollar player!
But I'm really happy with the signing news.
Tom is a beast who will drive us to our next premiership

I kinda think Jrbo will play in 2026 & retire at seasons end. If he happens to sustain another head knock during next season then I feel he will call it quits.

Definitely 2026 due to his back ended contract, and fair enough, but that has to be it then.
