The Penns are guilty of investing in coaches that have no success, limited experience, or its been a long time between drinks.
We sign most of our players from the tigers who are perennial cellar dwellers. In addition, trying to sign any current, past, present, and potential origin level player from a top 8 club is nearly impossible. Because those players would want at least double pay to come here.

Im not wanting to sound like an apologist for the Tigepies but they've produced some talent over the years.Tedesco, Papehousen, Addo Carr, Marty, Andrew Fifta, Nathan Brown. Just because the clubs performing poorly doesn't mean they don't produce the occasional star. You could argue that if they retained some of that talent they'd have had more success.

Sorry, just checking…did you put ‘Marty’ and ‘talent’ in the same sentence? 😂

Yeah but we havent bought a talent like tedesco, papehousen or addo carr from the tigers yet lol. the top clubs beat us to the punch. And for the dreggs we signed the tigers hit back and poached a talented junior.

And that's the problem, lots players are on good coin here with no wriggle room to buy the better players when they become available, forget the marquee players we have enough of them already.

How is that bloke going? What was his name again?

And yet they still reel us in with promises of blue skies and green pastures into the future.

While true, we didn't exactly go after talent like that though. Josh Aloiai and Kelma Tuilagi are never going to hit the heights of a Tedesco, Papenhuyzen, Addo-Carr or Fifita.

You buy a Wests Tigers forward, you get a Wests Tigers forward. Aloiai has butterfingers and Tuilagi must think tackle is something you take with you when going fishing.

The way we've recruited from them we're more likely to chase Luke Brooks than the next Jamie Lyon.

No excuses for failure

This post of mine from another thread says it all

The only retribution to any underachieving Manly coach is that they had not made a premiership winning contribution

The Fact is Toovey Barret and Des all failed finals success in their last year before being shown the door

Adversity and Injuries are part of the game
Team Resolution is part of an over achieving coach that flies under the radar and above adversity to win a premiership just like Des at his Peak when he over came club political board room battles and on field Battles at Brookvale .

At the end of every season two things are certain for all coaches
They will find a way and rise above adversity and overachieve
or
They will find excuses for Underachieving

Quote By former Great footy coach
  • Our success has not been a continual series of victories. We have had a number of devastating setbacks; how these are handled is the making of a great team... winning does not happen in straight lines. — Clive Woodward ...
    End quote

End Quote

The moral of the story
For the Great Competent Coaches Adversity is not the Demoralizing end for failure
Adversity is the Adrenalin for Determination and the ability to find ways for success
