Trump

Mate, if you believe Washington DC is a safe place, fair enough. Good for you. I suspect the average US voter would have a different perspective on crime and which party is best placed to deal with it.

FYI, repeated posturing is not the flex you think it is. Perhaps in a moment of self reflection, you might consider how much “anger”, “vitriol” and “self righteousness” there has been in some of your recent posts. Take care
Well first off we're on the internet - all things considered we're still on the more civil side of things (particularly for a MAGA / non-MAGA debate).

Stop pretending you're some innocent saint.

You know from some of my earliest posts in this thread this whole anti-expert/anti-science/anti-stats thing is where I draw the line. You can call it posturing if you like - but at the end of the day it is reckless to spread misinformation online and to try drag others into your bubble. Sure, you can point out potential biases, flawed methods / reasoning - what you're doing is much different.

If you want to go there; the definition of self-righteous: having or characterized by a certainty, especially an unfounded one, that one is totally correct or morally superior
* It is it far more self-righteous to insist you know better than all professionals not hand selected by Trump (they're all evil-intentioned/immoral). * No matter the topic you're never out of your depth... You've repeatedly demonstrated that the only key to your sense of truth is political affiliation.

In previous topics you discredited economists, scientists, statisticians. Today you're back at it with the statisticians (suddenly YOU know that DC data has been faked since...? What, the last 30 years? During Trump's first term too? Meanwhile half of the Republican states that have gleefully taken over DC's police force feature substantially higher rates. In other words, DC would have to have been underreporting its violent crime rates by a factor of 2-3 for the past few decades for it to be a crisis (relative to other US states). You know why they're doing it...

Everything about that style of messaging really hits a nerve with me. Always will.

As addressed ages back, first step to undoing a society is turning enough people against STEM scientists, engineers, doctors, mathematicians and statisticians to discredit critical thought. Once that's acheived, foundation is there for freedom to be stripped from everyone except groups favoured by the party in power. US has already crossed over that point. You're actively trying to contribute to it here in Australia. Sharpen up; you'll run out of money if you keep paying for all these Trump™ subscriptions;

Trumps DoJ investigation into DC crime stats ™ (decades of historical data wrong !)
Trumps DoE climate report ™ (decades of science wrong !)

Mate armed will all these compelling facts it’s hard to understand how the democrats lost the last election spending 1billion$ on the campaign and having the vast majority of media support especially in the social media space. The mind boggles on how he ( trump) still managed to win the popular vote? In my time it’s one of the most amazing election victories I have ever witnessed and I have not yet mentioned all the court cases, assignation attempts etc… truly amazing stuff.

Are you assuming that critics of Trump are fans of the american Democrat party?
For me, the rank failure of the Democrats is the reason Trump (the war hero) was elected twice.
Dems (and of course also the traditional republicans) have consistently pretended the corrupt system does not give over power and wealth to a tiny tiny tiny minority. Americans are now seeing through that, they no longer believe them!
Trump conned working class Americans into believing he will fix this by ripping up the constitution and claiming absolute power as a popular leader. Isn't it as simple as that?
Except he won't fix it, he is making it worse

They will just say it’s because all the Trump supporters are uneducated and uninformed, because that is what CNN tells them to think. They can’t see that their faux moral and intellectual superiority complex is the very reason they are in the minority. A President elected with an overwhelming majority is somehow a threat to democracy, but assassination attempts, attacking ICE agents, mass media bias and weaponising the justice and intelligence departments is not. That’s all legitimate resistance to a dictator.

Thanks for all that. Most neutral observers would say that most American cities are not as safe as they could be, but again, if you think otherwise, good for you. Take care.

Super impressive and overwhelming majority for the war hero!!

And Trump supporters are not uneducated and uninformed. On the contrary they are very sophisticated and shrewd, aside from eating cats and dogs, anyway they sure know a war hero when they see one

In comparison to labor’s results here is Australia and all the hurdles trump had to endure this is indeed super impressive. Actually bloody amazing imo. They threw everything at him…as i have said before this likely says more about what people think of democrats as opposed to people actually loving and embracing Trump.

We’ve been over the stats (total voting pop: trump 32.5%, Kamala in the realm of 31._ or 32._%). Given there’s a disdain for numbers I won’t bother to find the exact figure (let me know if that changes). Democrats didn’t represent the will of their supporters enough, so less people felt inclined to vote. Hence why mandatory voting should be a thing so people can’t say it’s a “majority” when it’s actually just a popularity / engagement contest

Given we live in Australia, i doubt us silvertails posters watch hardly any CNN. I’ve probably watched about a net total of 10 minutes worth from YouTube this year…

I watch far more Fox News clips than anything - which is what reinforces the stupid impression. There’s a reason they’re not legally allowed to classify themselves as “news” but rather entertainment. Their videos have more sensational headlines hence why I actually end up watching far more right-wing content online.

Many repeat their claims without looking 1cm deep into the skin, failing to overcome that

Many will consider it an “overreaction”, but for mine ICE is a paramilitary experiment. That’s exactly how Nazi germany evolved (authoritarian dictatorships involve baby steps, one minority group at a time). Immigrants > homeless and “criminals” > political “enemies” > your school teacher Sal > your uncle Benny…

Trump has taken over the FBI and taken control of economic data reporting. It does feel a bit like projecting here with “weaponing the justice and intelligence department”. Now a vast majority of data is no longer independent but rather an arm of the political party in power (weather/climate forecasting and monitoring systems, economic-reporting, immigration, police, FBI). Decades of statistics shouldn’t become illegitimate because Trump said so

I don’t think that’s the case at all really. Everyone cares about crime to an extent; politicians just try engage enough people to get behind their vision of crime. Trump convinced enough legal Hispanic people that border control / illegal immigration was going to get them raped/murdered. Hundreds of videos about now of people discussing their regret for their decision when they realised perfectly legal relatives/friends/children were being swept off the street without even being given the right to be heard in court. A bunch of white MAGA won’t care because it may not ever effect them.

That’s been the general pattern I’ve observed. “ It’s fine to do it to others but I drew the line once the hatred turned on me”

This quote out of Nazi Germany continues becoming more relevant; something I sort of alluded to in the last post

(“then they came for the …s, I did not speak up because I was not a …, then they came for the …, I did not speak up because I was not a …, then they came for me”)

The issue is what constitutes a crisis and why is it only applied in state x when historical numbers are worse in states a, b, c …. f, g…

American politics has been based on anti-crime / notion of security for decades. It is a highly effective political tool seized by Republican and Democratic candidates. Trump and co have just gone to the next level with it, popularising terminology such as “illegal aliens” and “radicals” . Eg 1991 DC crime substantially worse than 2025 DC crime. Yet the rhetoric is that only now it’s a crisis and only in anti-trump DC, New York,

I’d imagine crime rates have decreased across all states since the increased use of CCTV (ie last few decades)

ICE is truly indefensible; resistance is critical. I hope you wouldn’t willingly accept a paramilitary experiment here in Australia where masked, untrained and unidentified officers can grab people off the streets and “do whatever they want”.
Don't be too sure. In his previous identity here as Terry Randall, Brookie called for a stop to further Muslim Immigration and the intake of Muslim refugees. He is quite fearful in general, and of diversity in particular, and very concerned about borders. So it doesn't surprise that he likes Trump's Icecapades, and use of the miliary to crush dissent etc.

I imagine he was probably brought up that way - it’s a hard phobia to overcome (particularly given some media really plays into it). Like all things immigration has its drawbacks and positives.

In terms of positives; In the US I bet that the immigrants would pay their taxes more diligently than the wealthy do. Australia would be worse off with no Thai/indian/turkish/vietnamese/chinese/greek restuarants too.

For completeness, here are the final electoral college, senate and house maps. Lots of red on these maps.

Thanks. I’d suggest that only those who leave their houses unlocked at night can legitimately complain about border control. Otherwise, it’s a tad hypocritical. Take care.

I’m not sure I follow?

Tangent on the DC takeover: here’s a Fox News lady talking about the sandwich man and being cut off by some nervous cohosts

Open borders = open house.

On the fox bit, notice that alternative views are allowed? As for what she is saying, I agree, it does appear somewhat hypocritical. Maybe the view is that the Jan 6 people have already served enough punishment? What sentence did the sandwich thrower get?

I think it’s more her getting cut off / interrupted, no?

Searched up any relevant counter examples regarding CNN/MSNBC (again I don’t watch their news except when seeking it out). Very recently they allowed some MAGA personal trainer influencer on. They sure did let her speak (probably a bit too much…). According to the personal trainer slavery was trivial and more or less shouldn’t be remembered / black people barely affected by it.

I kid you not, a few days later Trump says the Smithsonian history museum should do away with a bunch of their slavery exhibitions and focus more on the great things in the future

On the sandwich man (Sean Charles Dunn)

Was an employee at the Department of Justice (for an international affairs department). Pam Bondi has said the following on X:

"I just learned that this defendant worked at the Department of Justice — NO LONGER,"

"This is an example of the Deep State (oh please…) we have been up against for seven months as we work to refocus DOJ," she added.

"You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement."

They are charging him with a federal assault charge for throwing the sandwich. Before the sandwich was thrown Sean said

"F--- you! You f------ fascists! Why are you
here? I don't want you in my city"

He did admit it: “I did it. I threw a sandwich.”

Well for someone who works for the department of justice, calling police officers fascists seems a tad less than even handed. What sort of sandwich was it?
