Barret has never coached in the nrl. Being assistant coach in SOO is a completely different ball game.

Toovey on the other hand has three top 4 finishes and a GF appearance on his resume. So what is all this bullsh$$ the media are going on about replacing Tooves with a better coach.

Wow, you've summed things up very concisely. I wouldn't go as far to suggest that it means Barrett can't coach, but it's a fair summation of what happened during their playing careers.

It's been said that Barrett is a good communicator, but I've watched him be interviewed many times over the years and it's impossible to get a read on him, and he always appears nervous and twitchy. I think he's a gamble personally.

Yes let's judge a potential coach because you think he comes across nervous and twitchy lol

Jobs for the boys now Bob is back.

Just be glad Ricky isn't available I guess.

Barrett might be alright as he will be out to prove himself and have people move heaven and earth for him to do it but Toovey needs to be given more time to turn it around once the halves fiasco has died down and we get a full team on the paddock again. He does have a great coaching record. Much more so then Barrett that's for sure. Helps he is a Manly man at heart also.

Fulton is a legend but his selections and affirmation for the NSW coaches and players over the past how ever long should be noted when it comes to Barretts coaching and his success at Assistant level for a few games a year that have to eventually even out.

Personally, I'd sooner see Des back, or Ivan.

Whilst I agree and he has had the worst injury toll I can remember. However with that said, something is a little fishy with all of this and the constant rumours around Tooves.

I used to think the media were more or less constantly muck raking and often they are, however with quite a few things the early reports have actually been correct. If DCE stays then I would say this is true and that Tooves won't be our coach next season
Can somebody tell me how many tackles Tooves has missed this season ???

This would be an end to the Manly of old.
There is no connection with Barrett. It makes no sense.
So much of what is happening makes us look like Cronulla, Penrith or even Norths at the moment. Journeyman players, random coaches, paying overs to retain stars, trouble attracting glamourous sponsors. It's so un Manly.
We are supposed to be different to other clubs. In-house, individual and impressive.

I don't mind Trent Barrett, but this issue here is the disgraceful treatment of a club legend. Playing this out in the media and practically hiring his replacement is a slap in the face and just another black eye for how the club has been run since the Penns took over.

Agree with most there, apart from maybe the coach. In my opinion, Bellamy is the best coach out there.

What was his involvement in Melbourne prior to him ciacging there? Zero. He played quite a few games for Canberra, and even won a premiership there, tjen coached The Broncos.

We have lost 80% of our games from about a month or two prior to last years finals. This is a results driven business.

The players are asking for a more tactical and technical coach. Give them one In my opinion.

A change in tactics or technique won't make a lick of difference without the effort and outside of a ridiculous injury count has been our biggest problem this season.

Toovs gives 100% to everything he does. No question. He bleeds Manly. Obviously.

Does that make him the best coach moving forward? No. There are many qualities our future coach needs to succeed, and who here can put their hand up to definitively say the extent to which 2v, or Barrett, have these qualities or not?

If Toovs is our coach, he has my full support. If he isn't, then his replacement has my full support. I trust Toovs would be well looked after if he is replaced. What Arko said suggests he would be. He certainly deserves it.

We've actually lost 70% of games a month out from last years finals and only 57% of games two months out from last years finals (at which time we were running 1st and favourites to win the 2014 premiership).

You including the nines, finals and trials? Add another 4-5 losses, and my guess is pretty darned close.

And Dce is to blame for all those losses.

Something is wrong beyond just this Dce stuff. Whether it coaching or something else I don't know. The manly spirit is broken and until all this shot is put to bed that spirit will stay hidden.

So there needs to be major changes and we need one half to be the centre of those changes

barret is more suited to hardcore gay porn ..... Toovey is more suited for a statue at the front of brookvale .. and a wax figure of toovey on the hill !

Whoever doesnt like Toovey's eye ball popping intensity suck it up and find a new club !
Did you see him in that movie "Gaylords say no?"

Melbourne and Manly are different clubs. There are a lot of things that work at other clubs that aren't the way we do it.
I'm not going to join the "how dare they" chorus about Tooves. If he isn't what is required, we as fans aren't the ones to make that call, as much as we'd love him to be. There is only a certain pool of people to choose his replacement from and Barrett is not within it.

You only need to compare Tooveys head to Barrets head to see which one was willing to put their body on the line for their club as a player. Maybe thats why one of them captained their team to a premiership while the other never won one and quit his team mid contract when things got tough and bolted overseas.

These types of qualities as a player transfer to their coaching. We'll have a pretty team that wins as many premierships as the last NRL club Barret played for.

Silvertails always keeps on delivering !! Every time you think you have seen all the strange bits of logic something new pops up

Tooves also inherited a great side...

Freddy Fittler, Ricky Stuart, Chris Anderson and Brian Smith all had 'unlimited resources' and look how their tenures ended up there.

Robinson is the real deal compared to those guys and will leave the place in a better position than what he got it, unlike those others.

As i have said, all he had to do was work on attitude. The talent was always there. After all, Ricky won a comp there. And it didn't hurt that he had SBW walk through the door with him.
