The last time Manly were outright competition leaders in a minor round was Round 25 in 2008 after beating the Titans 28-10 at Brookie (the Scum lost 17-16 to the Knights that round). Even though we won the next and last round 34-16 over Penrith, the Scum won 42-4 over Souffs to grab their second straight minor premiership that was of course later stripped.

2008 had a 3 way tie for the minor premiership, but the points difference saw the Scum originally awarded the title. They had +302, we had +290 and the Sharks had +67 (boy, haven't times been tough for the Sharks since then).

The last time we won the minor premiership and the Grand Final was 1996.

How were we outright competition leader if we were equal in points?

Like right now we were not outright, we are equal first ahead on for and against.

Re Friday night:
If we 'win ugly', ie low scoring defensive slog, all to the good. We still get our 2 points and the team have proven to each other that they can do it this year in semi final style footy.

If we win pretty, by big score, well this could be a massive confidence boost. Expecting a hard dry surface at the Fortress. In fact, this kind of outcome worries me a little. It could lead to over confidence, complacency in the coming weeks where we might take our eye off the prize.

A victory is better than a loss, but if we lose by a narrow margin, well that's not that bad at all.

The kind of outcome I really would like to see is a hard fought 'come from behind' win. This will psychologically shatter the chickens. They deserve it, and Shame Pain has to be the one to see it happen in front of him, and say "We have a try - just check grounding and everything else, there must be something wrong with it".
But no, a big Green TRY !

Technically you are correct as we were tied on points with the Scum and Sharks, but we were on top of the ladder after that round on for and against. That was the last time before now that Manly was in P1 on the ladder in the minor round. Other than that the last time we were officially on top was when we beat the Warriors in the 2011 GF 😀
