Its all about jumping to conclusions. Brett is looking for the NRL to admit they made the call due to the accusations...then he'll sue them for defamation and the club will get some of the 100k back

I'm sick of reading about other players involved in worse incidents then Brett getting slaps on the wrists. Of course nothing will come of it if we just let it pass without a mention. I for one don't want Gallop anywhere near this new IC, let alone accepting that he'll be CEO without a murmur of a protest. He is not the guy to take this game forward.

The continued inconsistency is the issue. Darren Lockyer was drunk and filmed - no action. There have been many more and it was that fool Gallop that said it was not the rape charges but the intoxication that was the issue and the reaosn for the $100 000 dollar fine and four weeks suspension. Thurston, Carney and numerous others have got off virtually scot-free so he his words are a joke.

listening to the news report @11am
Todd Carney was due for sentencing at 9:30 for his drink driving chatge but did not get there till about 11 pissed the judge off, seriously what was he thinking

The court system doesn't cost us taxpayers that much. (irony) Why shouldn't the judge, prosecutor, cops etc have to hang around to give the NRL darling some more time for a second latte.  The coffee's quite good at the Downing Centre.

There's no way Todd would have been sober at 9:30am.  His legal team probably thought it was better for him to rock up late and semi-coherent than rock up at 9:30am pissed out of his mind.

Quote...Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge said Carney had come within a hair's breadth of going to jail.

"I look at your driving record and it says to me you need to be taught a lesson. If you come back to me on any driving matter ... your feet won't hit the floor and you'll be out that door."

Ms Milledge also disqualified Carney's licence for 10 months.

Pretty lenient for 3rd offence

More of the excuse has come out, the chooks had a training session at 9am & Carney's solicitor told the chooks yeah no worries I will get it put off till 2pm then when 9:30 rolled around the judge said how dare he who does he think he is, she was really livid

Sounds like him being late is more his solictors fault than Carney directly.

apparently she had decided to jail him until the submission by the barrister.

Mr Gallop where are you?

There seems to be this crazy idea that Carney is a"project" the NRL are working on to show there compassion and rehabilitation skills as opposed to punishing the grub for what he is- a blight on society.

My mail is he has been up to his old tricks around bondi over the offseason but the journalists were didnt want to prick the fairytail dally M story unless they had to.

I agree absolutely with Chocs punishment by the club(as opposed to having it inflicted on choc by NRL) but the different standards applied to Carney is ridiculous. This bloke was run out of his home town by the magistrate ffs.

These players just don't learn their lesson.  They have no regard for the law or the courts.  He should have been jailed because this is the only thing that will make the Carney's of the world wake up.

I don't think he should receive harsher punishment because he's a footy player.  General society is full of people who disregard laws designed to keep us safe, for example DUI, social drugs, binge drinking, fighting, etc.

Given his record I do not think a jail term would be disproportionate with sentences handed down to others for similar offences.

Absolutely prior issues should be a factor when determining punishment, however I'm not familiar enough with serial offenders in the DUI area to say that Carney is lucky to be a free man so to speak.  I have heard/read other instances where others have perhaps erred even more and still haven't yet faced jail time.  I just don't think Carney should got to jail because he's a footy player.

That being said I do believe that as a crime DUI is definitely in need of an overhaul for the punishment that is currently given out.

Oh Gallop was there, don't worry about that. He wouldn't let poor misunderstood Toddy face the nasty magistrate all by himself. He also provided Todd with a glowing reference.

Carney just inadvertently gets himself in these predicaments you know, it's not his fault. It's not like he had a couple of beers, caught a cab home and found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and wound up facing a completely fabricated sexual assault charge. That sort of behaviour is what Gallop is trying to stamp out, not drink driving.

Damn.  Wished I'd been aware of Gallops's appearance.  I'd have gone down there and asked him the hard reporters questions.
