I think every coach of any team that misses the finals or gets bundled out would be copping it from a certain fan element within the supporter base. That's human nature. Only the GF coaches will be given a pass mark in general.

That is pretty thorough I guess he failed to mention that the dogs got Des by contriving s situation that allowed either a contract break or a sacking (which eventually occurred) you reap what you sow!!! You asked for and you got it!!!

The best part about it is the person responsible for this mess as well as breaking Des's contract with manly is now running the NRL.

That is taking rewarding incompetence to new heights

No he won't be sacked but he will be a bit less powerful than he likes to be. So, for the next year or so we'll see him casting his eyes around the league world to see who can afford a coaching Messiah. In Des we trust. Modest on the outside, megalomaniacal on the inside.

It certainly sounds like he is on the way out with all his staff being shown the door.

It's not that big a deal though. A lot of them have been there 5 years. It's not like it's 6 months or even 1 year. 5 years is a fair amount of time.

I still reckon they have done ok under des. He hasn't won them a Comp however From 05 to 11 they made the semis 3 times. Des has got them there every year and 2 gf's in his 5 years.

The dogs signed Des on big money to win a title and not just to twinkle toe them into the finals without a premiership.
Is Des safe next year ? Probably
Will Des be safe next year if he does not win a title ? Probably not .

Canterbury Bulldogs want top-four termination clause in new Des Hasler contract

Danny Weidler

There are some strange things going on at Belmore and it might not be the place where finals specialist Des Hasler should be plying his trade.

Last week we told you about the issues at the club, specifically the $1.25million blowout in the football club budget, which led to the decision not to re-sign a number of Hasler's staff. We also mentioned there was pressure on Canterbury boss Raelene Castle.

Killer caveat: Coach Des Hasler has been asked to agree to a clause that belies his experience in taking clubs to success. Photo: Getty Images
I took a call during the week from Bulldogs chairman Ray Dibb who disputed there was pressure on Castle. He said every board member had offered Castle their support after that item. That is interesting in itself. He didn't dispute the size of the blowout in the football club budget.

Des better pray that he can keep his most important players on the field for the full season. If he suffered a Sea Eagles '16 injury toll, he'll be gone by the middle of the season.

Dogs have go tno idea, say what you want about him , he has an average team, just like he used to at Manly. He is a great coach , and him not missing the finals at both clubs is testimant to that. Difference is ,. He wore Manly on his sleeve, and so did the players we had. Des isnt the one on the field dropping the balls. He must be doing something right if they are always in the eight , even after everyone nearly always writes off his teams

Doesn't have the halves to win a premiership is the major difference, very limited skillet, creativity, class and lacking composure so is forced to have the halves in "most" years working off conservative second man plays and a forward bias structure.

Basically Des has failed in developing or attracting a quality halves pairing which has him in a vicious cycle of falling back into predictable, limited, lacking variation structures.

Des can see the halves are not of the quality to implement a different approach, combine that with forward stocks that are over-rated and the wrong type of size in general and you have a recipe for stagnant performances.

Des is unfortunate in some ways as Moses Mbye happened to have a great couple of months when his contract was up and a few teams went hard to get him forcing the dogs to pay well to keep him.

Since then, Mbye has been very disappointing and found wanting when the games have been there to win.

I suppose it's not entirely Mbye's fault as they won't give him the ball but his team mates and coach must think he doesn't have it in him.

Des is stuck with those halves unless he can move one to hooker and punt Lichaa.

There's a few halves coming off contract at the end of 2017 so it'll be interesting to see who the dogs target.

Yeah you're right, maybe you do have to be a narcissistic wanking prick to coach your team to success.

There’s more drama at the Belmore, with the club still coping with the fallout from a disappointing season in 2016.

Several of Des Hasler’s trusted staff have been given the boot - a clear shot across the coach’s bows by the board.

Now I’m hearing Hasler has had a falling out with one of his closest allies - assistant coach Jim Dymock.

The pair have found themselves at odds in the blame game over the club’s early exit from the finals that caused so much drama within the Bulldogs’ ranks.

But Dymock is one of the few members of Hasler’s staff to keep his job - so the pair will have to work out their differences over the summer.

Hasler has had a victory of sorts, with the Bulldogs deciding not to release another of his right-hand men, Kelly Egan.

The Bulldogs were looking to shed Egan and replace him with a favourite son - former Test prop Dean Pay.

But Pay, a key man in Ricky Stuart’s staff at Canberra, decided to stay with the Green Machine, so Egan has survived.

Latest from the Kennel .....

When will people realize the fact that good players do not want to play under Hasler. He is a career killer.

What's this "top 4 clause" bull**** ?
He's had enough time. Should be a 1 year contract, with a "premiership clause". Win the comp of **** off.
I mean, winnings what it's all about, right ?
Fck hasler.

We are screwed in 2017 instead of cutting our loses we give this nob another chance.
What the **** do you think des will do in 2017 fck all ,
des will just fck us over one more year of player been robots and a laughing stock of the NRL .

Chaos seems to follow Hasler.
None of what is going on should be a surprise to anyone, just look at how he left Manly and the ongoing issues with the board there.

Then write in the clause - sacked if you don't win a premiership in 2017.
This idiot has spent 1.25 mill out of pockets to perve at the players with the state of the art camera big brother show!
