The thing about the Superbowl ...

I wouldn’t travel half way across the country to watch inept refereeing and a half time performance from the Veronicas.

if they were capable of making it a proper celebration then I would be up for it.

Don’t forget that not only are we a small country, but the other half of the country is mad for AFL.

Somehow it was deemed a Kansas home game?
But when you compare populations US-330 million to our paltry 25 million. You could play it in the Nevada desert and you’d fill the joint.

But ... the point is .... the ticket sales are a small % of the gross revenue .... the real money as we know is in the broadcasting rights .... and the more fans sitting at home on the TV the better ...... you could hold the grandfinal in a 30,000 seat stadium like Cumberlnd Oval ...... as long as the stadium is full and it is an EVENT .... the people will come .......

Yet we have filled the MCG for a SOO that features no team from Victoria ..... people will attend an event .....

@HoldenV8 ... just on that ... a mate recently took his family to the Big Bash in Coff's Harbour ... bloke has never watched a cricket game in his life ... and the ground was packed by other people who wouldn't know who Bradman was .... a sellout .... but the event was a huge success and the game was the winner ......

... and there is now 1000 kids with Sixers Jerseys and merchandise at home .....

Mate, I do get what you are saying. But right now I don't think the NRL is in a position to take the Grand Final away from Sydney, Brisbane or even Melbourne. Especially since there is no club in the league that is any further west right now than either Canberra or Melbourne.

Maybe when (or if ever) there are established teams in Adelaide, Perth or maybe even Darwin, sure. But not while it is still basically an east coast league. Oh sure they would still more than likely get a packed house to an interstate GF, but how many of them would be actual fans of the two teams playing?

The AFL could do it (there have been calls for that for over 30 years), but right now I don't think it would be the best move for the NRL. Not yet anyway. Sure take regular club games around the country, take Origin's and tests, but not the Grand Final. Not yet.

Why does that matter .... the more NON-fans that attend the better .... that is the whole point of it .. there are kids walking around Coff's today wearing Sixers jersey's and bragging to their mates about how great a night it was .... sure, fans like us will whinge and moan ... but we will still watch the game on TV and cheer like maniacs .....

I have only been to 4 of our Grandfinal ... 3 wins and a loss .... but I treasure the ones I wasn't at just as much ...

Probably still got a full house in Sydney when the Broncos played the Cowboys for example in the 2015 G F , may have still got a good attendance in Perth and Melbourne and certainly Brisbane with the right promotion , but Adelaide and Auckland may have been a bit more problematical . But agree that the two major code "s G F is still also primarily an event and that should also be a natural attraction in itself no matter the relevant city location or participating teams .
