Im all for equal rights for gay/lesbians etc etc.. I don't agree with the views of the 7, but respect their right to expression.

Here in America (Seattle), the rainbow flag is a political symbol - it represents much more than "equal rights" for gays and lesbians. There are countless gays and lesbians who disagree with what the rainbow flag represents.

I'm not sure what the rainbow flag represents in Australia, but I think anything that is seen as a political symbol, much like a religious symbol - should not be in sport.

Homophobia perpetuated by individuals who are 100% responsible for their beliefs and free from any external influence. Or homophobia perpetuated by a bigoted and hateful belief system that is tied to the same individuals' culture and identity?
No-one wants a repeat of last years debacle. But there is a conversation that needs to start, the NRL should be doing something. Something!
Not just saying in effect, sorry folks, we have to respect the fact some people don't want gays in the game (or probably anywhere) and let's all just act like nothing happened!

100% it is about homophobia. That's the only thing it is about.
It is one thing to be resigned to the fact the current NRL bosses have decided its too hard.
But the way you and Red Pill are actually celebrating this news really says a lot.

You appear to hear a lot being said ... that has never actually been said ...

So you object to peoples rights being upheld and common sense prevailing ...

Why does the NRL have 'specialised' rounds? We have the Indigenous round, the Women in League Round, the Pride round etc. The PR department will tell you it is for noble reasons; to recognise the 'cause' they are highlighting. I'm more sceptical. I think it is to gain marketing dollars.
These rounds gain great media attention and advertising. Clubs make extra revenue by selling specialised merchandise.
If recognising the cause is so important then why don't sporting organisations that are not on TV and, thus, will not gain any revenue benefit from them, have these rounds?
Does grade/club cricket/baseball/tennis/golf have such rounds? No.
In fact, do any of the non-professional codes have such specialised round? Not to my knowledge.
Having been in the journalism, PR and marketing profession all my business career I can't help but be cynical.

Can you please tell us who said "they don't want gays in the game" ...

Looks like you are again just making shiite up to try to justify yourself ...

I'm jumping to conclusions?
Do you think our 7 or 10 players actually wanted gays in the game, but just didn't like the jersey design?

100% agree.
Personally, what I would like to see is for the NRL and it's clubs to encourage players and staff to show support for inclusion. How good would it be for a player to wear rainbow socks or armband every round or for coaches to sit in the box proudly wearing a pride badge...and without the need for a divisive one off round to be mandated.

I suspect mostly the latter but there will also be some due to narrow mindedness & lack of education in some individuals.

That said, I don’t believe the pride round was intended to be divisive but it certainly turned out that way & one good thing to come out of it is that it is now a hot topic of discussion in the community & therefore won’t simply go away.

Not intended to be divisive. But, had they put any thought (and consultation) into it they would have quickly seen the problems it could create. The AFLW have one player not want to participate and it's still giving them headaches.
'You can't pick and choose inclusion': AFL on delicate balance of Pride Round drama

I think they were guilty of assuming no player would object to wearing a couple of rainbow stripes in this day & age.
I'm not sure if you're attempting trivializing the issue as the players saw it or highlight that those wanting to implementing the idea were likely looking at things from a fairly privileged position - one that is one not exposed to or affected by religious dogma or family pressure.

I’m not trying to trivialise anything.

It’s cloud cuckoo land type ridiculous that anyone objects to anyone’s sexuality in this day & age.

Anything else mentioned in an attempt to soften that fact is just attempted distraction from the root of the problem.

My old footy club used to do a wives/gf round where a marquee would be set up on the sideline and the ladies would be treated to free champagne, finger food etc. I guess this constitutes a “women in league” round.

To sell more jerseys , and other bullsh*t. It's just populous virtue signalling by marketing influencers. Just stick to playing fu*king football.
