Agree.

Homophobia may be the go-to word for many on here, but if you want to gain a better understanding on the position of others, it may be time to discard these all-inclusive labels.

All the convenient, hackneyed, misused phraseology which has become de rigeur of today's intelligentsia needs a good overhaul. Blanket statements which put people in baskets, are desultory, and do nothing more than push even moderate folk back into a corner - with predictable results.

Think anything with 'phobia' or 'ist' (like misogynist etc) on the end of it - hurled at someone or some group you don't understand. The very folk who say, 'you don't understand the LGBTQI+ community' often have an intolerant and jaundiced view of anyone who does not show 100% vocal support of the LGBTQI+ community - and doesn't want to understand them. 'Us and Them' perpetuated.

We live in an information age, and we like to correlate the volume of our information with how enlightened we are. So like every generation we celebrate how emancipated we are. We have shaken off the shackles of the past. People who are religious are old-fashioned; at best, meddling do-gooders, at worst, hateful intolerant Fascists and probably pedophiles to boot. Yay for our new (non-religious) high moral ground.

Anyway - this is all very serious for a footy forum.

Time for some rainbow levity - if you dare:

The weaponising of language, ... (dare, I say it) .... by the leftie activists is deliberate ... control the language .. control the debate .. silence the opposition .

That is the tactic, but anyone who's been awake in recent years will know it is the tactic of the alt-right, not the left. The left is devoid of coherent strategy

Well that is a rhetorical question. Of course you did.
So the real question is, will you kindly retract your allegations that I've made up untruths? Please.
No you are a liar SER8. If you don’t like it . report it. We both know you lied. My goodness what a hide you have… you are unbelievable. Next time you pull a stunt like this I will report it myself

Given that you are so upset by the "weaponising of language", should we be discussing your proclivity to use (traditionally) female traits to question the intellect and insult those that you don't agree with?

I think you are opening Pandora’s box looking at the basis in which jibes are exchanged amongst members regardless of view. Much better to keep the primary focus existential unless you are looking for an excuse to deflect from the main point.

There's a lot of aggro in this forum and very little respect for the other person's views. Well done you have clearly identified the problem at centre of this long and tedious debate.

It's funny whilst I'm a heterosexual male, my wife and I have a number friends that are gay (male couples) that we we enjoy socialising with very much. They just want to be accepted as people like everybody else. Whilst their holistic needs, which are not as simple as sexual preference, deserve recognition and respect they should not be spotlighted either. Frankly the grandstanding does little to help their lives as communal failure to recognise and respect their holistic needs is a complex social and religious issue that requires education and reform. Humans have been fighting religious wars for centuries. There is no quick fix. People won't change their social and religious programming because they are forced. Trying to force them to do so in effect shows a lack of respect for their beliefs and or faith. That is why our football club respected our players religious beliefs and did not make they play wearing the rainbow jersey. The NRL contributed to the problem with their rigid rules about playing in identical jerseys.

Calling them homophobic lacks understanding and respect and assumes quite inappropriately that they actually dislike or hate people that are gay. There is no evidence of that. If you want a solution contribute to it by doing your part by just treating people in same sex relationships with dignity and respect just like you treat any other couple. We should be treating all people with respect and dignity including each other on here.

Pope, Anglican, Presbyterian leaders denounce anti-gay laws

Pope Francis, the head of the Anglican Communion and the top Presbyterian minister have spoken out on LGBTQ rights"

Well more than one person.
Albanese is the 'leader' of Australia. Clearly you must agree with everything he says, as all persons of faith of countless denominations must follow their leaders

I know I'm only a relative newbie to the Forum but based on my first few months, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Zeus has already regretted giving Pandora that damn box. @;)

Well then! Wait until the regular footy season. If we keep losing ( which I pray to Zeus or whoever will listen) we don’t! Dummies will be flying everywhere!!! It’s a real eye opener…If we win it’s a great and fun vibe unless some kind of politics is introduced….

Yes, I did view from a far before deciding to commit. Or should that be - before I'm committed.

Words have consquences

Another long term poster just contacted me to deactivate their account due to the petty name calling, taunts and childish posts.

What a shame. Again.
