The No-Look News (Schuster Chronicles)

I doubt he is struggling mentally, he has an injured calf and thigh, and is trying to get out there.
I tend to think he would be...set back after set back would get very frustrating. I can see the mental scars of Turbo's run of injuries in his game every week. As fans, I tend to think we underestimate the psychology that comes with the pressure of professional sport. There's a lot at stake.

FATHER'S PLOY TO LURE DISGRUNTLED BULLDOGS PLAYERMAKER KYLE FLANAGAN TO RIVAL CLUB
📰
The Mole
Manly assistant coach Shane Flanagan is trying to get son Kyle to the Sea Eagles in 2024 in a bid to revive the halfback's career.
Flanagan, 24, is coming off contract with the Bulldogs at the end of the season and is unlikely to be re-signed.
The Sea Eagles are considering bringing him in and moving veteran Daly Cherry-Evans to five-eighth, then shifting the giant Josh Schuster to backrow or centre.
Kyle played his best football under his dad early in his career at Cronulla, where he debuted in 2018 and looked the goods.
He has lost his way in recent seasons at the Roosters and Bulldogs but his father believes the playmaker still has plenty to offer if used the right way.
This season, Kyle has yet to score a try or come up with a try assist after eight rounds with the Bulldogs.
Schuster has had a mixed year at five-eighth for Manly - on Sunday in the narrow win over the Tigers, he had eight runs for just 47 metres, missed five tackles and made four errors.
Both Flanagans will deny all this - but it has been discussed very seriously in the corridors of power at Manly.

If you believe Michael Carayannis on NRL360 and he is one of the better journos out there,Schuster is allegedly on $800K this yr and it goes up next yr.If this is true,is it any wonder the team is releasing players and signing bit part players
I just saw the show (replay) I can't believe that would be true. 30 odd games and $800k. Not worth anywhere near that (yet)

In some ways I think the worst thing to happen to Josh was the manager agitating for the 6 and thus the moving on of a Manly favourite.

So rather than young Josh just quietly developing his game, fitness, body, footy smarts, he became a beacon of fan interest/obsession/hope/skepticism.

Dumbest thing I've ever seen a manager do.
Agree, it made me far less willing to be patient with him

Even my personal opinion aside, it is sure to put a lot of pressure on him to “be the guy”, whereas the original plan was to transition him more gradually for another year or two under Foz (some people don’t like things taking time though).

Hopefully he gets himself fit and firing after a bit of an injury break. Equally, if Johns comes out of that period with form, Schuster shouldn’t be given a free ticket to the 6 jersey.

I agree, sounds ridiculous but as I said,Carayannis is one of the better ones and isn’t known to run with an agenda.Even the other morons on the desk sounded shocked

Yes I noticed that. This contract was done in 2021. They couldn't possibly given him $800k then, could they?... Although that was the Des era

I don’t believe Michael caryannis on nrl 360.

Interesting one this , Schuster is obviously having injury problems ,Could be a number of things , pushing himself to hard ,adapting to first grade in a major position, Struggling with his weight ,
Listening to the DCE interview today and the way DCE was referring to Josh there are issues there him and he sounded concerned about him , It may a good thing for him to just get himself right and it may take a few weeks and feel he has the backing of the club and if he has to come back through the Reggie’s so be it , He will come back I’m sure , He has the talent and I wish him all best

How to enjoy the footie season more?

Focus on watching the games and avoid the dribble of second rate journos & tv jabberers 🙂
Each to their own.By watching the “second rate journos &tv jabberers” it doesn’t have an effect on footy season enjoyment,it actually makes me feel better about my own knowledge of the game compared to their lack of

In DCE's interview he implies Schu needs to work harder to get himself right. If this indicates the mollycoddling strategy is consigned to the past that could be the best thing for our very high-paid,very rarely-seen prodigy. If he can't be bothered to keep his weight in check while he's got a leg injury and can't run, then his professionalism is not up to scratch.
In case anyone missed it, he's not on the injured list.

Self-discipline issues seem to be a recurring theme for Josh, unfortunately. Personally, I think his problems could be far more psychological than physical. However, the physical manifestation of that can potentially be seen in his constant struggles with weight and fitness. If so, I'm not that confident anymore that he will find a long-term resolution to these issues.

2021 was Schuie’s breakout year playing in the backrow. He was actually very close to making the Origin squad (until a calf injury) in his first full year of first grade.

Whilst it might not be $800k, what he was displaying at that time and his potential at such a young age meant he would have received a sizeable upgrade.

Like I said in another thread, the club can only do so much to get him firing at 100%, he won’t get near his potential until he’s consistently disciplined and professional in his approach to his footy.

He can do it, but it won’t just happen for him.

$800k

If true then no wonder we can’t sign anyone , DCE 1.4, Tom 1.0, Jake 900, and now 800 for a 5/8 that’s yet to prove himself even once.

That’s about 40% of the cap on 4 players
