The Manly forward pack are Soft

I'm sure a re-watch of that game will bear out this:

  • 70% of our hit-ups, the Penrith players got our player on his back or side, with a slow play the ball resulting.
  • 70% of the Panther hit ups, the Penrith player was still facing forward and possibly even still standing up - resulting in a very quick play the ball.

When we tried to slow the Penrith play the ball down, it was "6 again" - almost always. Penrith, on the other hand, stretched the limits of gamesmanship with their ruck antics. Having 3 players in many tackles didn't hurt for them, either.

We had 40 percent of the ball over the match. Their boppers hit the line at speed with the ball and our guys did not. We need to see more aggression and we need to see the ruck controlled so our 6 and 7 have the space to get the go forward rolling.

We got a lesson tonight and Penrith showed the level that we need to get to.

Where to start with the comments about the lopsided refereeing. Yeo lost the ball in a tackle and Manly didn't get ball from that error, and then Panthers scored a try very soon after. Panthers knock the ball on from a Manly Bomb and a Panther collects the ball in an offside position, ref let play continue. Mathew Thompson, the CH9 commentator said " oooh, they've missed one there " on A COUPLE of occasions.
Now for the 6 agains. Tonight The Panthers got half a dozen or more. Manly got one 6 again.
That is ridiculous, because The Panthers made 20-30 infringements in the Play the Ball area, may be more.
Manly couldn't get any momentum because the referees kept allowing The Panthers to break a lot of basic rules that stopped Manly from getting any flow.
Panthers played with a lot of mongrel and weren't penalised for their foul play and Manly played like Nice Boys.
I would pay the $10k and tell the post match media exactly what the referees did to help The Panthers dominate the game.
Panthers played as if there wasn't an off season and Manly played like they didn't know each other.
It's only Rnd 1 and I'm sure that our Mad Scientist will have a few pages of notes to share with the boys at training.
Go Manly!!!!

I absolutely hate the 6 again rule and I reckon Manly are generally on the wrong side of it (looking at you Jake) but I reckon Riff earnt the 'rub of the green' tonight by playing up-tempo footy and dominating the ruck...

There were plenty of times I screamed at the telly for a 6-again coz Kikau was laying on the tackled player or making a 2nd effort but, generally, i think we got what we deserved... jmo...

Good to see Terry Zarsoff online tonight, are you any relation to Bernie Zarsoff from the infamous 80's Pub Rock Band " The Zarsoff Brothers " I saw them a few times at The Glider Room at The Dee Why Hotel. Very funny and entertaining.

Not good enough!

- no mongrel

- no go forward

- completely dominated in every way

- slow play the balls

- zero urgency

- no heart

- errors

It’s been this way for many many years and once again it’s the same **** again to start the year, Yes they will bully the weaker teams but we will never never ever win the comp or compete with the stronger teams unless there is change, be it players or attitude!

disgusted
Sad to say very much like parra have been over the last 5 years easy beating teams 5-16 but come up against a top 4 look totally lost until last year

Sadly they are miles in front of our forwards and I think again sadly they will go deep this year.

Tonight that hurt badly we just folded and gave nothing tonight. That was not the Manly I know.

I can cop getting beat that happens in sport but to be so soft in the forwards like that tonight very sad to see.

I still think 6-7th finish and probably make it to week 2 finals but no deeper for us this year.

Jake didn't have a good game at all, he'd be the first to admit it as well.
The 6 agains are a good rule if the referee actually gives your team half a dozen or more per game.
By giving Manly one 6 again, they were saying that The Panthers were playing like Angels and not breaking any rules, which they clearly were.
Referees need to be held accountable for their errors.
I've spoken with ROOSTERS' fans who've admitted ( and chuckled ) that the refereeing in the 2013 Grand Final was terribly biased in their favour. They know all the errors the refs made, especially the forward pass that went 3 -4 mtres forward and ended in the match winning try.

The thing i HATE about the 6 again is that there is no accountabilitt... it is totally subjective and it seems to be influenced by the 'flow' of the game and refs tend to begin picking on players for 5-10 min periods...

And EVERYBODY knows we were rorted in 2013... even the ref...

I thought they tried hard tonight, and they didn't play bad either.

Penrith's skill level, and technical superiority to win the wrestle around the Ruck, was just that far superior, one team might as well have been playing in slow motion.

Are we willing to adapt to survive though?
