Smithy, depends on what site we look at for our stats I suppose - NRL site has Roberts at 81.8% and Kelly at 74.7% - yes, still behind but not as far as your source.
But like most stats, they don't tell us the whole story and am usually loathe to quote stats for this reason.

Sorry, I'm on #teamkelly.

PS - love the use of the word "attackingly"....awesome.

And statistically, Kelly paid 200k visavie Roberts paid 500k = 900 metres @ 3 gold stars - 12 missed tackles + 2 off field incidents, divided by the square root of Jack Birds brain cell capacity.

Hard to be an actuarial football player?.

Enjoying reading this thread and peoples opinions on players.
Im also on the Kelly bandwagon, and atm if it came down to squeezing players in to a tight salary cap id have him over Walker.
As Bearfax says he seems to have that ability to make time stand still - a lot of the indigenous boys have that skill. He's great at getting between defenders and bursting through, also been unlucky to not have a few more tries against his name I can recall probably 3 or 4 tries that have been called back for various reasons. His defence is ok and will only get better with experience.
Walker is the opposite where everything he does is a million miles an hour.
Don't get me wrong, love what Walker brings to the table, but based purely on value for money you'd be crazy to let Kelly go.
Also, I have Kelly in my fantasy team so have been watching him closely this year!

Exactly!

Also this argument about speed, Esan Marsters at the tigers is probably the form centre in the NRL and hes probably one of the slowest.
He's just got great footwork and ball skills and the ability to make things happen around him.

Agree.

I thought Marsters was a complete nuffie last year. But what a single off season can do for a young kid. Looks dangerous every time he has the ball. Similar to BJ Leilua.

Kelly is slowly improving which is good.

Suli is rapidly improving but from a lower base.

Walker is improving a good amount each week after a couple of major surgeries.

Parker is injured and is yet to get a run of games together.

There are 3 main questions here:
1. What is their ability ceiling?
2. How long will it take to get there?
3. How much of the cap will they chew up?

Walker is the only one we really know an answer on so far.

My take on Moses is .... He is a young kid (19) that in the past 18months has had the world placed at his feet ... twice ...

and ... twice it has either been too much for him or he simply wasn't/isn't that motivated to be a football star ....

Baz and the Manly team have done an excellent job getting him back focused ...... but my gut feel is it is a case of slowly slowly catch ee monkey with this bloke ...

Talent is there and it has a high ceiling ... it won't be fulfilled unless the desire is also there ..... how Baz and circumstances play it over the rest of this year will be critical to the kids future .... making him earn everything he gets won't hurt him .....

Another point supporting Kelly, tackle efficiency isn't everything. It doesn't consider the willingness of a player to make the tackle. Kelly tends to push up a bit more in defence and is the first player in the tackle more often. It means he bears the brunt of the attacking player's momentum and is more likely to drop off when others come in to help. Api is a good example of this. Gets involved with a lot of tackles but drops off more because of it, hence his missed tackle stat.

He sure as sh1t hasn’t put a foot wrong... contains an enormous amount of potential, and when he drops another few kegs he’s going to be a huge handful to contain. Agree with you that he needs to work for it, but surely Matt Wright drops off and Suli keeps building on what he’s done already. Recruitment have some very big decisions coming up with these young guys coming through. I know you have a soft spot for Parker @Woodsie, and I love a local junior, but for mine he doesn’t offer too much, particularly in attack. Good defender.

O several points I disagree with you Bozo. Like you I have seen some of the best centres around since 1965
Pretty sure Bozo has admitted elsewhere that's he's only seen some video clips - he just ain't old enough to have actually seen them !

O several points I disagree with you Bozo. Like you I have seen some of the best centres around since 1965. Kelly to me is not the sort of centre like Walker, Roberts etc who are fast and given space can destroy an opposition. Kelly is to me more the Lyons/Lyon type of player, a creator, someone who can create space. As I mentioned elsewhere no one had heard of Cliff Lyons or thought much of him at Norths, a 23 year old centre with silky skills but nothing special. I remember saying that we had nabbed someone special without anyone really noticing. He was 24 when he came to Manly and within the next year he was becoming the brilliant Napper that we know.

Some players with natural skills take time to develop their genius, and I believe Kelly has the makings of being something special. He's a year younger than Lyons was at Norths, so I wouldnt be taking much notice of that. Some players with sheer speed, break out quickly, but they also die quickly because they rely too much on that, and speed dies. The creative player just gets better with time, and Kelly is a creative player. He's already almost matching Roberts and Walker in metres, try assists etc. And he's doing it without super speed. Of course Kelly needs to keep improving and developing those skills, but potentially I think he'll be better than Roberts or Walker in the long run. But that's an opinion but like you, one based on extensive recollections of past players.. Let the challenge begin.
Thanks for your reply and we will agree to disagree feathered friend

True , I have seen some of them on video clips and some live and From what I seen I have made my own judgement .We all have our favourite superstars and Kelly does not shine in my eyes at all. I see him as a competent centre at best .
For those that think Kelly is above competent level then try and convince the NSW and Australian selectors that he is above that and not me ;)

Lets just sign Roberts then you will be happy. Just telling you Suli isnt half the player Kelly is. Suli may be big but footwork is basically non existent and Kelly is going to be very good very soon, already is. Its not about size and speed, it can also be about Skill with Kelly has lots of. Skill lasts longer then speed and size and improves over time, unlike speed and size.
Thank you for your reply . We all have our own opinions and that is what makes this Silvetails forum interesting

I wouldn't swap Dylan Walker for anyone . If he went to another club i would be shattered and i think manly would lose out big time . He is an out and out superstar that will bust defences open in the blink of an eye . If we lost Taupau to keep walker id be happy .
I am with you on that feathered friend . The Dynamic Road Runner Dylan Walker has speed to burn. He is electrifying.
You can have footwork like Michael Jackson and Fred Astair but you will be completely at of the race if you cant match it with either power or pace .

Pure speed is certainly an asset for a player, especially if you're an outside back. But speed isn't everything.
True ,speed isn't everything unless you know how to use it and centres that we see score length of the field tries that leave players clutching at thin air do know how to use it and the Road Runner Dylan Walker knows how to use his superior speed .
