Hsd a great arvo at Burleigh Bears yesterday

Good game of footy Hunters came back to hit the front but Bears got them late

Single referee, minimal block plays , no video ref,tackles not wrestles,raucous crowd on the hill.

Plenty of past and present NRL guys including ex Bear, our own Brenton Lawrence.Would like someone with his ticker right now in our side.

Neil Henry was watching next to me... don’t worry I didn’t ask but he did look as though he had plenty of time on his hands 🙂

Geez we have messed up this great game of Rugby League. It’s an absolute disgrace.

The best era for me was the 90's before News Ltd came in and tried to buy the game. It was all about pay TV rights.

Probably helps that the mid 90's the Manly team was one of the best we have ever had and players put in each week.
One ref, no penalties for just the sake of it. Was still a tough game without the kill the opposition like in the 70s and 80s.

If Rupert had won the pay tv rights the game would be much healthier now. The game was starting to spread its wings around the country. The game lost its way and the AFL took over Sydney and Brisbane. Why they got rid of Perth handing it to the AFL I will never know.

I loved the good old days, Fire , Passion, big hits, tough men doing their work and the little guys coming into their own as the big fellas tired.

Chips over the top, ad lib plays, scrums that were actual scrums, hookers who were hookers and yes ONE ref.

No replays , no bunker, no bull**** penalty calls , no “ evening up the count”.

$5 to get in, $1 beers and yes it was a working men’s game.

I never went to a private school ( but could have) , and despite not being the classic “ working man” I’ve loved the working mans game since I was a kid.

It’s changed forever now, I’m clinging to it but to be honest it would not take much for me to walk away!!

Yep. 90s was great. Sir Clifford and Beaver played the game in a way they just wouldn’t even contemplate these days. 3 rucks , 2 block plays and kick to a 120kg winger in the 6th. 16 teams, same game plan.

Games are won or lost through possession, and little else.

And what determines possesion, Penalties and Errors.

Do you notice how Fox don't even have replays of penalty's anymore, so you don't know why the penalty has been given half of the time.

I guess if you replayed every one of the 20-25 penalty's being blown the whole coverage would be replays!

The irony is they changed the scrum to a farce due to too many scrum penalties. Now they are a total joke and we have twice as many penalties.

And by taking away the uncertainty of scrums they make it even more predictable.

I grew up listening to manly on the radio where ever we went . Krillich , Eadie , Boyd , couldnt get enough of them . Went through the highs and lows with them and have never been so gutted after witnessing the 82 and 83 gfs. Fond memories of our ADT teams and Pepsi through the mid 90s. Who can forget the fabulous 2000s . No team has the memories of dominance in all decades since ive followed them since 76. Proud to be an Eagle ..

Mate how good is an afternoon or. A night at a q cup game.
Me and my brother in law go to heaps of Phins game at dolphin oval. I love it. Load up on on the beers walk out of the club to a ground that I kid you not is almost better than brookie.

We were gonna go to the manly broncos game Saturday week but are thinking we will go watch Redcliffe instead.

Yep Cameron. Got heaps of dolphins mates. I used to play for the old Brothers club around then and played plenty at Dolphin Oval. Foundation Brisbane club and like Valleys have passed into history.Dolphins had some great sides in the 80s. Little known fact but the Terry Fearnley coached Kangaroo touring side to NZ in the early 80s had 10 of the starting 13 come from Brisbane clubs( 5 from Redclife ).

The Webb clan have been running the club for years and do a great job. Great arvo out at a great facility and the locals love their footy .
