The Elephant in the room

Not sure it’s an Elephant but we can blame injuries , short turnarounds, whatever you like for our recent form but let’s face it , this all started after the “ big announcement “.

Yes the first game after , we won, but it was the Eels and you could see on the day the Dollar Chaser was going to put in big time.

Since then he , and we , have been dismal and in a downward spiral.

A captain isn’t only about talking to the press or the referee, their biggest role is motivating the team , especially when they are down & out , 12-0 down after 15 minutes.

Imagine how the players must feel knowing their captain doesn’t want to be there and they can see him “ dogging it “.

Now yes this maybe because of a back injury , but it’s more likely he’s just given up.

There are three courses this can take

1) we just accept it for what it is and know this year is shot already.
2) we appoint new , joint captains ( as one is hardly on the field these days anyway) and if the Dollar Chaser spits the dummy we really aren’t any worse off.
3) we send the Dollar Chaser to NSW cup , which means he’ll spit the dummy and demand an immediate release. So be it , if some club is prepared to stump up $600k ( or whatever it is ) all good , and we use those funds to forward pay some players so that if frees up that amount in 26. If no other club has the funds , that’s how he’ll complete his long history with the club , playing Reggie’s.

But I thought this was the elephant in the room....

I agree with your earlier post, unless we start winning then this is going to be a crap year, the way we are playing, I cant see when are next win is. All the other teams this year have lifted but us, every game is going to be hard for us from here on in, so yes this year is only going to get harder unless we start playing as a team. If our captain has lost his mojo, then take the captaincy off him and give it to someone who is going to inspire the boys

Another thought as well

The Dollar Chaser might be happy to have that pressure released.

I doubt it , but a possibility

Manly is great at the Elephant game, we could create a circus out of the circus that has been our club ( at times over the last 14 years ).

Amazing, we are asking the exact same questions as we were in 2018. "Are the DCE and Turbos overpaid?"

Imagine telling the people in that thread, that seven years later, not only have we not won a premiership, but we have only made the finals three times, in non-consective years, had Barrett and Des sacked, and yet those three are still there, on the same contracts...

The interesting test will be seeing "how much impact" Tom T adds this weekend on return, as DCE and a fair few players are looking in cruise control and lacking zest and he should open the game up more for the key players.
Agreed DCE looks a little lacklustre in recent times and to call it out, only Hoppa and Tommy Talau looked to play with any real desire last weekend against Illawarra, with Brown and TKO and Sipley at times ok.....and however Manly started that game had Haumole attacking sideways and looking to pass set a terrible ripple effect across the team.
Second half once he tucked the ball and simply powered direct and hard bending the line, this was the platform for the 2nd half fightback, but too little, too late and Manly deserved what they played for.....a shocking loss.

Option three is close to the best possible outcome, selling him on, it’s a commercial outcome in the best interest of the club, after all its not like cap space isn’t our problem, Daly’s not in our plans moving forward.

It’s probably what he wants and what’s probably best for the club, it seems silly to hold him and reap what from doing so, cashing him out seems like the best business decision.

If I thought the Dollar Chaser had his heart in it I’d agree , I’m not actually sure that this is the case.

Maybe it’s a back injury, so I guess the jury is out.

But if , say by round 12 , we’ve lost 6 ( or is it 7) games in a row we’ll know that this is a festering wound that needs to be lanced.

How about a player swap for the year? DCE - Galvin. Tigers had one before where they got Harry Grant.

The thought of DCE being bullied by Luai and co would fill me with delight. Can't imagine they'd have much respect for him. Bloody Queenslander

Thankfully we haven’t allowed any of these elephants to destroy the playing surface at Brookvale.

We should be thankful for small mercies.
