You really wanna know 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬But how do you feel about him 🤔
And that's exactly why I've never been able to fully embrace DCE as a Manly great. Yes, he's durable, he's clever, he's obviously talented, but, for me, he lacks that win at all costs mongrel, that no self preservation, that grunt that inspires team mates to dig deeper when everything is going against them.WOW Cronk you are blind ignorant, only now are commentators saying that DCE is struggling with contact. ****sake , that fraud has avoided contact his whole career.
Personally I'm loving the pile on. He was the teflon kid here for years, with so many sycophants making excuses for his averageness. About time he copped some criticism, as it is well and truly overdue.Something deeply uncomfortable about the current media pile-on now with DCE. Of course we Manly die-hards are piling onto the bugger - but to see others, such as those not-very-highly-respected media pundits and 'experts' also piling onto someone who's still wearing Manly colours .... doesn't make me feel better.
Sudden thought. .. DCE's decision to publicly reject Manly while still our captain, with a full season to go, has offended our most basic expectations of sporting team culture. You stick together, you support your teammates and your club, you deal with issues discreetly inside the 4 walls, ie do not publicly embarrass your club and mates by ****ting in your own nest and broadcasting it on Channel 9.
We (at least a lot of us here on ST) are appalled or even outraged by Daly - our longstanding, decorated club captain and premiership winner - failing to understand this basic aspect of rugby league - indeed, team sport - culture.
Yet here's the thought. Maybe it is Daly who does get it, and we fans who are still labouring under romantic delusions of neighbourhood games and 'sporting team culture'.
Daly gets it. NRL is not sport, certainly not sport in the way we understand junior or local comps we played in for fun, or even the game as it became semi-professional. It's becoming Rollerball.
The post-super league era has produced an entertainment product - "NRL" - in which franchises sell merchandise and players get their bodies and even brains turned to mush for our viewing entertainment. In this show, the players' survival becomes their paramount consideration. They'll stick together on-field in their mutual interest, and off-field in enterprise bargaining. But loyalty to their franchise? When franchises routinely make ruthless decisions on players?
We fans are stuck with this dedication to the colours, imprinted on our psyche from years past. DCE tossed our romantic delusion in the bin, and that hurt. But is it really DCE who doesn't understand what it's all about - or is it us!!
Not sure, just a thought that came to mind as I typed 🤷♂️
Anyhow - Go Manly, piss off DCE!
Well yeah, there is all that I guessPersonally I'm loving the pile on. He was the teflon kid here for years, with so many sycophants making excuses for his averageness. About time he copped some criticism, as it is well and truly overdue.
And can we stop referring to him as a "premiership winner", intimating that he actually did something extraordinary in that game that needs to be remembered for ever and a day. He was gifted a premiership ring by being lucky enough to play in one of the greatest Manly sides ever. I could have played 7 in that team and we still would have beaten the Wahs that day. His legacy is one of blowing up the team and culture by demanding more money, and then embarking on a 10 year premiership drought, with nary a finals visit to show for it.
What identity has he brought to Manly under his 10 year reign as Captain and leader of the club ? Where has our culture improved, where has the "Manly Way" manifested itself other than in a fluffy preseason YouTube video ? Manly over the last 10 years is a direct reflection of DCE, occasionally brilliant but ultimately inconsistent, mediocre and underwhelming. How is he leaving Brookvale a better place than when he came here ? He will be remembered for two thing - *ting on the Titans by backing out of a signed contract, and then going on TV to * on the club that fed him for a decade.
I thought , “ tell us how you really feel “ would be a better commentWell yeah, there is all that I guess![]()
