The Daly Cherrygraph

What are Politis's connections to Channel 9? How's he able to lure DCE (and others) with sweetners to Channel 9? What's his involvement there? Does have he a stake/share/etc with channel 9? (genuinely curious).
Think about the advertising spend , Australia wide, with AP Eagers , almost every major car brand , in every city , every regional area , it would be massive.

You think Nick Politis wouldn’t have a fair bit of “ sway “ with them ???

i understand that DCE could play on for a second year at the roosters depending how his body holds up with both parties to sit down and discuss after the first year.Nick and Trent believe DCE has the makings of a very good coach and a high football IQ and that he fits in with their culture . The coaching gig is real and the roosters are always forward planning for the future.. its a well run business unlike hands off Penn ...i just put managers on and hope for the best.
Exceptionally well run, and loads of extra cash ( in comparison).

Whilst I don’t know for sure I’d be surprised if Penn puts in any extra funds other than the grant money from the NRL.

The Cooper Cronk “ after retirement coaching gig “ ( which finishes soon ) is exactly how they got him from the Drizzle, low ball contract to fit the cap , huge afters for what is a very limited coaching gig.

The coaching extra , courtesy Uncle Nick or a raft of others.

Easy , it’s the $$$$$$$$

I bet Penn doesn’t spend a dollar more than the NRL grant on coaching ( which I believe is 5 million a year ) whereas Uncle Nick says “ hold my beer “.

Let’s compare the pair ( using totally made up dollar figures but to show my thoughts on how it would have gone down).

D$E , hey Tony I’m thinking about playing two more years whatcya reckon ??

Mestrov, nah we think you’ll be good for maybe one last hurrah , how about $550k for one final contract

D$E , nah Tony , I’m worth at least a million a year for two years , I’m QLD captain you know.

Mestrov , sorry D$E we think it’s time to bring up a youngster and we can’t afford to do that by paying you two million.

D$E , GDay Nick , interested in signing me for two years at a million a year.

Nick , no way D$E, we’d love to have you but we’d need to do it another way , how about $400k for next year and then $1.3 million a year for two years coaching . Of course we’d only need you for 3 hours on a Thursday , every second week OH and I can sweeten the deal with an on air contract for Chan 9, another $750k a year , just the footy season , two shifts a week plus SOO & GF.

D$E , where do I sign !!!!

I think every player would sign that!

They can have him - he'll fit right in.

I remember David Gyngell (Channel 9 CEO) was on the Rooster’s board of directors at one point.

I don’t know if he’s still CEO &/or still on the Rooster’s board now though.
They’ve got plenty of high flyers ( still )

It’s the “ one year contract “ that surprises me , I thought one of the major reasons he was leaving is we only wanted to offer one year , he wanted two.

But I guess yes ALL about the $$$$$

So no big deal , he plays 2026 for say $400k and then gets 1.3 million a year for two years coaching ( nudge nudge wink wink turn up for half a day on Thursdays , every second week ).
NRL got on to this loophole years ago. Of course I assume that only applies to certain clubs…
