The Daly Cherrygraph

a lot will be said about Daly’s fine game tonight and deservedly so, but…the most impressive thing about it, was what he didn’t do, I.e go for cheap points out of yardage. Why he can’t play with control and get our team into the grind every week is beyond me. More of tonight, please Daly!
What about his fitness? He is the oldest in the NRL and backed-up from SOO. We all saw how SOO depleted Hass and Carrigan, but not DCE.
I'm not sure I'll easily forgive the disrespect he showed our club and we supporters earlier in the season but I'll always admire what a good footballer he is and marvel at his stamina and resilience.

Hopefully he comes good on his verbal commitments to having as good as possible a final year with Manly. If he keeps that form up then the premiership is still possible. The comp is wide open right now.
Has he actually said he's playing next year still?

Everyone is quick to write him off because of the butt hurt but Chez is close to the most durable footballer I can remember… he has got at least another 2 years in him imo…

Mind you, Thurston and Cam Smith were pretty bloody good in terms of durability also…

Im going to throw this out there. 2 points.

DCE did 90% of the kicking tonight. That's the first time in months it's not been Brooks as the preferred kicker. For me I think his lower back injury from that early round was a lot worse than the club or he let on. Not an athlete in my wildest dreams but my lower back has been blown for 20 years with disc issues and I can say even the smallest issue can sap the life out of you. From the moment he went down with that injury he hardly kicked either long or short. Definitely none of thise little deft grubbers into goal.

Secondly if there is some bad blood in the side regarding DCE leaving is it beyond possible that perhaps Tom and Jake are the catalyst? With both out tonight the team looked happier. They are obviously Manly thru and thru and you couldn't blame them if it was the case but that's 2 big characters that guide a large part of the team.
Man I must say those shots in the sheds after support the Turbo narrative. Jake looked miserable and Turbo a similar surly sulk. Maybe it was just me, but I picked that up watching. Maybe they were just pissed to have missed it.

Agree about DCE possibly playing injured till now.

Also, it's pretty clear from the post game vision that the players and coach for that matter are all on the same page and there isn't bad blood about DCE, the way there is here.
Not sure about the Turbo's being off him, somehow I doubt that, even if they were miffed when it first came out.
The old bastard sure played well tonight though!

When he actually said
"I just love playing footy for this club for this team" in the presser i wanted to throw my remote through the TV.

As i have said many times I've always supported him.. but boy could he have done the whole last 7 weeks so much better.
This game and that presser was a step in the right direction.

Maybe he's been reading this forum and realises he was badly advised when he went on TV for the "announcement" the way he did.

Speaking of the presser, I found it bizarre that he said he thought tonight wasn’t his best performance in a while and that he had a few better performances going into Origin. What does he class as a good performance because to me, tonight was far better than anything he dished up leading into Origin outside of perhaps the Panthers game which was still 4 weeks prior.

Perhaps he was just saying it to further justify his Origin 1 selection

Great game last night but that should be the standard and not the exception for a player of his status and pay packet. Even then I thought he took some poor options in the second half which he wouldn’t get away with if we weren’t already up by 20.

Hopefully he gets dropped for Origin and can just focus on Manly for the rest of the year, as he said he’d do when announcing his departure but never really meant.

Possibly ... just possibly ... DCE's performance last night had a lot to do with the fact that for a rare occasion this year we had forward momentum and plenty of attacking field position ... something that he hasn't had a lot of this year .. and certainly, didn't have in SOO ..

Compare Reynolds game as the contrast .. no field position = shocker for a half.
