Seems to be two camps in the rugby league media at the moment: those who attempt to maintain the fiction that Cherry wasn't signed, sealed and delivered to the Roosters before he made his fateful announcement, and those who are willing to give nudge-nudge wink-wink recognition to the fact that the deal is already done.Robinson confirmed Smith would join the Rabbitohs this week as the club continues to free up cash to make a play for Cherry-Evans.
You make some very valid points but in your attempt to show ‘understanding and emotionally intelligence in your views on DCE’s departure’ you are neglecting to validate the emotional experiences of your fellow posters. If understanding fundamental human nature is your modus operandi, you might want to apply it to the Manly fans as well as Daly.Still get the sense there is a general emotional reaction to DCE leaving and that distorts how you see the issue. Firstly saying DCE is not an elite half is quite contrary to his selection as one of the top half backs in the game over the past decade. Secondly suggesting Cronk was superior to DCE is again very questionable, given Cronk was always playing in a top grade side whereas DCE has had to deal with some very average Manly sides.
For goodness sake this fellow is a test half, had captained and won SOOs. Suggesting he's not a top half because Manly hasn't won a comp since 2011 is meaningless. One player does not win a comp and I think you all know that. To me this is all anger because he did something that riled us. OK. Maybe he did this all wrong. And as I said if his performance drops over the remainder of the season, we have something to be annoyed about. But let’s get it into perspective. He was a great half back for Manly, in my mind even better than Cronk, though perhaps not to Thurston's level. Very easy to consider someone great when they have a great side around them.

That's our DCE, at the casino sitting at the table just throwing the dice. You don't see too many elite halfbacks try a chip kick on the first tackle of a much needed repeat set either, but here we are...
You been watching him play since the announcement ??Read my post again LC. I am referring to the emotional response to this whole episode. Emotionally charged issues can become infectious and lead a life of their own, losing sight of what the original issue was about.
And what was the original issue? DCE got on TV and said he was leaving Manly. Did he attack the club?. Did he attack the fans? Did he say why? So what was it that caused the problem.? Was it that he didn't say he was leaving in the manner that suited us. Really? Maybe he said it jovially, but where has he said anything against the club or the fans. He was merely indicating a decision. It was we who then created a whole series of scenarios and implications, that were never said. Is this all about hurt feelings? Let’s stick it to him. Let’s diminish his value to our team over 14 years. Please LC, tell me what factual matters have we to be so upset about? Like I said Bob Fulton announced he was leaving Manly in his final years for more money with Easts and he also was captain. Were we upset? I well remember it. But did we demean him?
I dont think many give a rats that he’s going. I for one am looking forward to the post-DCE era. It’s more the manner in which he’s done it. And his form HAS dropped off noticeably since this all came to light - i don’t think anyone can deny that. That’s affected the team’s performances too - hence the annoyance from us fans. I’ve said it for years and years - DCE at his best is VERY very good. But at his worst he is VERY very average. And the fluctuations in those levels are far too common and wide. No consistency and it’s for that reason I don’t (and never have) rated him as a ’great’. Then again, I wouldn’t rank Cronk as a ‘great’ either.Still get the sense there is a general emotional reaction to DCE leaving and that distorts how you see the issue. DCE [paraphrased] I want to play on. Just not with Manly. Of course I have nothing against the club, I just don't want to play with them ever again. And won't, as soon as my contract is finished I'm gone! (But yes I'll keep playing with Qld, I enjoy and love playing for Qld)Did he attack the club?. Did he attack the fans? Did he say why? So what was it that caused the problem.? Was it that he didn't say he was leaving in the manner that suited us. Really? You seem to be forgetting/ignoring the part where he accused ‘someone’ (wouldn’t say who so we’re left to wonder) of orchestrating a smear campaign against him??Read my post again LC. I'll take the way Jack Wighton left Canberra thanks. Fulton and arko had a close relationship and arko gave him his blessing as he knew he couldn't match Packers $$. I've read it was open and transparent discussions between them both, which led to Fulton being welcomed back in later years.Read my post again LC.
